Rabbi Franklin
Is Recovering

Readers of The Jewish News
will be pleased to learn that
Dr. Leo M. Franklin, rabbi
emeritus of Temple Beth El,
is recovering from his illness.

Rabbi Franklin suffered a
heart attack on Oct. 10 as he
was walking up the steps of
the Detroit Institute of Arts
to attend the Modern Ameri-
can Art Exhibit. He was
accompanied immediately to
Harper Hospital by Mrs.
Franklin.
The night before, at the
meeting of the Jewish 'Com-
munity Council, Dr. Frank-
lin, apparently then in the
best of health, gave a lengthy
report on recent happenings
in Charlevoix and was well
received by the large represen-
tation of delegates from local
organizations.

Discovery of Crucifixion Witness'
Story in Tomb Is Declared False

NEW YORK (JPS)—The Brit-
iih Information Service, in a
bulletin issued here, describes as
false, reports that a tomb re-
cently uncovered near Jerus-
alem- contains. a ,contemporarY
eye • witness account of Christ's
crucifixion. -
The tomb was discovered by
Prof. E. L. Sukenik, director of
the Museum of Jewish Antiqui-
ties,- of the Hebrew University
in Jerusalem, and according to
Robert Hamilton, director of the
Palestine Government Depart-
ment of Antiquities.
The British bulletin features
the report of Jack Lawton,
Cairo correspondent for the
British Broadcasting Co., who
was reportedly -taken on a tour
of the tomb by Dr. Sukenik.
"The tomb seems to be a
-normal Jewish family tomb of
the type usually - found in and
around Jerusalerri and generally
attributed to tlie' first century

B. C. or A. D.," Lawton reports.
"Nothing in the tomb is un-
usual except thk one of the
ossuaries bore on each of its
four side§ a cross drawn in
charcoal. Furthermore, on one
side there was scratched the
name 'Jesus,' in Greek letters,
followed by a word which, in.
ancient Greek, is used as an,
exclamation of sorrow. This be-
ing the case, we have the earli-
est Christian tomb which has
come to light in modern times,"
Lawton says/

ADVANTAGES OF THE

•ELECTRIC RANGE

Clean, controlled heat expresses

quickly the advantages of an 'elec-
tric range. The‘ surface burners
have several heat units from "sim-
mer" to "high" that provide just
the right heat for whatever dish is
being cooked. The heat comes di-
rectly to the bottom of the utensil
and as clean as sunlight. In the
oven, a control regulates the heat
to an exact temperature and main-
tains it. An electric timer can be
provided to turn off the current at
a pre-set time, thus letting the
housewife forget all about the
oven. The broiter grills meats to a
perfect turn, and the deep well
cooker is ideal for long, slow cook-
ing, such as soups, cereals or stews.

"It's a pleasure for a dealer to furnish a
house with an all-electric kitchen—for it
makes the house into a home. The electric
kitchen cuts down the housewife's time in
the kitchen . . . and .gives a thrill to the
work she does there. The electric range
gives uniform results . . . provides auto-
matic operation, cutting down the amount
of attention necessary. Electric cookery is
the modern way . . . convenient . . . clean
. . . reliable. People have come to feel
about it the way they do about electric
refrigeration — that it is the only way. The
electric dishwasher, too, has proved itself
in thousands of homes as a time and labor
saver. I've sold many and never had one
returned. They normally save the housewife
a total of about a day's work every m9nth.
. . . People are not so familiar with the
operation of the garbage disposal unit in
the sink drain. The convenience of throw-
ing waste right into the sink and washing
it away cannot be appreciated until used.
And the modern housewife also gets the
multiple assistance of all the smaller elec-
tric helpers — mixer, juicer, percolator,
toaster and others.. I can't think of any in-
vestment that goes farther toward making
a house a real home than an electric kitchen."

Electric: - kitchen equipment is not generally available for sale
now. Some is being manufactured and distributed. It will be to
