MYSTERY OF THE WEEK
.• . Who stole Al Cohen's nice
brown hat? . . . The head of the
Jewish Vocational Service was
partaking in some food at a local
eatery last week when the topper
disappeared . . His tablemates,
Isidore Sobeloff, Aaron Droock,
Issac Franck and Rabbi Leon
Fram, all plead not guilty . . .
They don't wear the same size
. . . Chief suspect, thus far, is the
owner of an old and dilapitated
brown hat found on a hook after
closing hours . . . and obviously
forgotten very conveniently . .
Who ever he is, he can't escape
.. Lock out! . . Al is on the
rowl!
(Say, wouldn't that really make
a story if the fellow came to the
JVS for a job wearing Al's hat?)

AFTER FIVE years, Dr. Harry

And when mother reprimand-

NEW YORK (JPS)—American
Army officers and enlisted men,
occupying Germany, are falling
for Nazi racist and political prop-
aganda; have come to admire and
pity the German people and un-
wittingly may be the carries of
the Fascist germ when they re-
turn to the U. S. This is the con-
sensus of opinion of American
newspaper men and other observ-
ers, most of them writing from
Germany.
Leland Stowe, writing in the
New York Post, quotes a report
from Saul Haas, owner of a radio
station in Seattle, who just re-
turned from Berlin. Mr. Haas says
that "scores of thousands of U. S.
soldiers are swallowing the Goeb-
bels propaganda line handed them
by their temporary German girl
friends.
Raymond Daniell, writing from
Berlin in the New York Herald
Tribune, reports that: "The ar-
rival of large numbers of civilians
and officers who neyer . S -
bat. and have little knowledge of
the conditions existing in the rest
of Europe liberated from the Ger-
mans, is beginning to strengthen
the ranks of those who in sympa-
thy for the Germans, would soften
the Allies' peace terms."
Col. Frank Howley, newly ap-
pointed director of the Office of
Military Government in Berlin,
told a press conference there that
recently arrived American offic-
ers "who have never seen com-
bat conditions," are the people
who want to be more gentle with
the Germans."

colored glasses, now . . . He

DEAD ORCHIDS . • . To an
individual who actually gave this
answer to a solicitor we know
for the Post-War Chest . . . "Why
don't they give the people a rest
now that the war is over?" • . .
Think of it!' ... Someone making
a remark like that! . . . The war
may be over but the duration
isn't and people like that are ob-
viously too ignorant to realize the
need for help are still great . . .
Another thing ... The Red Feath-
er drive is STILL the annual
Community Fund and Jewish
Welfare Campaign.

SILVER JUBILEE, the dance
honoring the 25th Holiday Hop
and opening the popular season
at the Jewish Center, Sunday,
Oct. 21, will have a big surprise
planned for the evening . . . Can't
tell you what it is until the affair
is over.
