munity Cotincil, a testimonial
dinner in his honor will be held
on Sunday, Nov. 4, in the social
hall of Shaarey Zedek.

testimonial , is under the chair-
manship of Morris Garvett, a
former vice • president of the

Congress Women Here

Plan All-Day Affair
On Interfaith Theme

Plans for an all-day session
are . being completed by the
interfaith committee of the De-
troit . Women's Division of the
American- Jewish Congress, to
take place Wednesday, Oct. 17,
at the Jewish Center.
The morning session will
gin at 11 with registration and
welcoming remarks by the presi-
dent, Mrs. Max Dushkin. Ex-
hibits; a movie, and subscription
luncheon will follow.
At a panel discussion, Mrs.
HarrY Stocker will introduce the
following participants: Rabbi
Jehudah Cohen, director of the
Hillel Foundation at the Uni-
versity of Michigan; • the Rev.
Charles . Hill of Hartford Ave.
Baptist Church; the Rev. Ells-
worth Smith, director of the
War Emergency Service of the
Detroit Council of Churches.
Following the theme, "Brother:-
hood in Action," the speakers
will discuss "Evaluation of the
Present Day - Scene,"-, "Use • . of
Religion by Subversive Groups"
and "Brotherhood Responsibil-
ity."

Alice Elson Will Direct
Bnai Brith Girls' Work
WASHINGTON, D. C. — The
appointment of Miss Alice El-
son as acting national director
of Bnai -Brith Girls' Work is
announced by Henry Monsky,
chairman of the Bnai ∎Brith
Youth Commission,
MisS Elson succeeds Mrs. Bea-
trice Chapman, first national di-
rector of Bnai Brith Girls' Work,
who -resigned as of Sept. 1.

Halevy Singing Society
To Discuss Reports
On Building Project

Detroit Halevy Singing Soc-
iety will hold a special meeting
Sunday, at 2' p. M., at the home
of its president, _David. Goldberg,
2726 Sturtevant, to discuss re-
ports _from the building corn-
mittee, headed by Dr. William
Klein, and the finance commit-
tee, of which William Gayman
is chairman.
The building committee will
report on plans for the erection
of a club house on a site already
acquired on Linwood between
Oakrnan and Fleet. The finance
committee will present plans for
financing the proposed building.
Dan Frohman, Halevy musi-
cal director, is preparing' 'the
choral program for the 21st an-
nual concert, to take _ place
March 3, in the Masonic Temple,
with. Igor Gorin returning as
guest artist.
Max Levy, membership chair-
man, invites all interested in
Jewish music to attend the re-
hearsal next Tuesday evening in
the Roosevelt School, Linwood
at Burlingame.

At its convention, held at the
Book-Cadillac hotel on Tuesday,
the' Michigan Federation of. Tem-
ple Sisterhoods elected Mrs.
Henry Meyers as president for
1945-46.
Mrs. Meyers, a vice president
of the organization since 1943,
formerly represented Detroit on
the board of the National Fed-
eration of Temple Sisterhoods.
In her remarks of acceptance,
under the title: "Sisterhood Plan-
ning for Peace Times", Mrs.
Meyers indicated that she hopes
to realize the fulfillment of one
of the great needs of the state,
to send an itinerant religious
school director to Michigan com-
munities that want this help.
Mrs. Meyers will recommend
that the Michigan State Federa-
tion set up a fund and enlist the
help of • the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations and
Hebrew' Union College to send a
rabbi or student to these com-
munities at least once a month.
Elected to serve with Mrs.
Meyers are: Mrs. Harvey Stead-
man of Lansing, Mrs. Irving
Steinman of Pontiac and Mrs.
Samuel B. Danto of Detroit, vice
presidents; Mrs. • S. S. Pearlstine
of Flint, recording secretary; Mrs.
Max Lowenstein of Detroit, cor-
responding secretary; Mrs.

Jewish women to awareness of
current 'Jewish problems, stim-
ulating them to constructive ac-
tion.
