$30,000,000 Drive

Hygiene and the Family'

NEW YORK— A $30;000,000
campaign, the greatest fund-rais-
ing drive ever conducted in the
U.. S. to meet local medical and
welfare needs, •was launched by
Federation ' of Jewish Philan-
thropies' of New York.,
.
Of the record-breaking cam-
paign goal, p1,000,000 will be
sought for Federation's first
building fund in 25 years. This
will be used for new construc-
tion, expansion, and moderniza-
tion of local health and wel-
fare facilities, and for the fur-
therance of medical and scientific
research. The other $9,000,000
will be raised to meet the current
operating expenses of Federa-
tion's 116. affiliated hospitals and
social service agencies, which an-
nually serve more than 300,000
people.
Following the leadership ron-
ference, which reviewed . last-
minute campaign plans and
marked the opening of the drive,
Norman S. Goetz, Federation
president, discussed details of the
$30,000,000 appeal at a press con-
ference at Federation head-
quarters, 71 E. 47th St.,

Dr. W. • A. Goldberg, director
of Counselling Service, is shed-
uling a series of five lectures on
"The Social Hygiene 'of Marriage
and The Family." This series will
consist of basic concepts, discus 7
sion, and' questions . and , is es-
pecially designed for parents of
children of all ages. To keep
discussion at a proper level, each
series is limited to a small group,
of parents.
The subject matter will follow
a nationally known text and will
deal specifically with the attitudes
of parents and children on sex
information, procedures of in-
forming children correctly on
questions asked and generally in
rounding the education of child-
ren in a field often neglected by
well-meaning parents.
At a later time, another series
will be planned kir young people
newly married or about to be
married. -
Dr. Goldberg has been actively
engaged in the practice of social
work and in the practice of
private social work since 1941,
beginning in Chicago. He is a
special lecturer in Sociology at
Wayne University„ has been pro-
bation officer and supervisor in
domestic relations and generally
had an exVnsive experience in
social work. He is the author of
a number of volumes on wel-
fare administration.

tion has 218, and the secondary

school and the kindergarten
have slightly over 100 each. The

school is being financed by the
Jewish community, but it is ex- -
pected that -the- Bulgarian - Gov-
ernment will provide full •
financial support.

Is Our Moment to Dream Again,
Plan Again, Build Again," will

10,000 volunteer workers under
the chairmanship of Maurice
Wertheim, prominent investment
banker, who has been a trustee
of Federation for 25 years and
was formerly chairman of its
Finance Committee for 15 years.

Fisher Town Hall Opens
New Season on. Oct. 10

ing the 17th season of the Detroit
Town Hall which opens Wednes-
day morning, Oct. 10, at the
Fisher Theater.
