Wednesday Evening

Semi-annual collections of the
Blue and White Jewish National
Fund boxes will be , conducted
during Hol Hamoed Sukkoth, it
was announced this week.
Leaders of all Zionist groups
- are now making plans for these
semi-annual clearances of boxes.
Box-holders are asked. to give a
hearty welcome to volunteer col-
lectors.

.MRS. IDA LUCKOFF of Syra-
cuse, N. Y., mother of , - Lou
Luckoff, Detroit advertising man,
died last Saturday. Funeral ser-
vices were held Sunday. Besides
her son, Mrs. Luckoff is survived
by five daughters.

WOLF ZAFT, of 2525 Sturte-
vant,: who was born in Russia in
1877, came to Toledo in 1904 and
to. Detroit in 1925, died last Sat-
urday. He is survived by his wife,
Rebecca; three sons, Harold, Abe
andllenry; a daughter; Mrs. Moe
Lepcifsky of Toronto; a brother,
Sam, of Toledo; three sisters, Mrs.
Esther Mellman,- Mrs. Sarah
Freedman and - Mrs. Beckie
Freshthan and six grandchildren.

MRS. CAROLINE FISCHER,
76, of 2904: Elmhurst, died last
Friday. Funeral services were
held Sunday at Ira Kanfinan Fu-
neral Home. Burial was in Clover
Hill Park Cemetery. A native of
Romania, Mrs. Fischer was a De-
troit resident for 31 years. She is
survived by her husband, Moritz;
a son, Edward; four daughters,
Mrs. Louis Norman of Buffalo,
Mrs. Ben Schrager of Flint, Tillie
and Lena of Detroit; six grand-
children and one great-grandson.

MRs. MURIEL LEVENSON, 71,
of 3480 W. Chicago Blvd., who
was barn in Poland; came to the
U. S. in 495 and resided in De-
troit for "26 years, died last Fri-
day. Funeral services were held
at Ira Kaufman Funeral •Home
Sunday. Burial was in CloVer Hill
Park Cemetery. Her survivors are
her husband, Israel; • two sons,
Max and Dr. Edward Levenson;
two datighters, Mrs. Harry_ B.
Keidan and Dorothy.

memory. of American Legion-

away. One of the names on the
plaque is that of Abe Zussman,
past commander, whose father,
Nathan Zussman, will be- present
to give a brief report on the.
presentation of the Congressional
Medal of Honor to that of his
other hero son, : Lt. Raymond
ZUssman, who was killed in
France.

and deliver a talk.

Bess .Myerson, a 21-year-old Jew-
ish girl from New York City,
was crowned "Miss America,
1945," last week after the judges
had picked her over contestants
from parts of the country.
The Hunter College graduate
and music student seemed more
interested in the $5,000 scholar-
ship which went with the award
than in the Modelling or Holly-
wood jobs that are usually of-
fered the winner -of the coun-
try's most famous beauty con-
test. She plans to continue her
music studies, .

LONDON, (JPS)--More than
1,400 English Jews were on, the
blacklist prepared for Hitler by
his henchman, Heinrich _Him-
mler, to be. used in the event
of a British invasion ' as plan-
ned • by the Nazis in 1940.
The list included scientists, in-
dustrialists; Chief Rabbis Hertz,
Dr. Weizmann, Brodetsky, the
Rothschild family, Harold Laski,
publisher _Victor Gollancz, Eman-
uel Shinwell, M. P., sculptor Ja-
cob Epstein, Professor Norman
Bentwich, Israel Sieff, industria-
list. Former Jewish members of
British -Parliament, all Jewish
journalists and correspondents of
American = Jewish newspapers ;
proniinent Jewish refugees from
Germany, Austria and - Czecho-
slovakia also were listed.
At a 'public meeting in Man-
chester, Lord Strabolgi said - that
Britain :expects the moral sup-
port of the U: S. in carrying out
the 'pro-Jewish Palestine policy to
which both nations have pledged
themselves. - -
All • trouble from Arab mis-
chief-makers would , cease if 'one
American Army captain with 100
American soldiers 'formed part
of the Jerusalein Garrison, Lord
