Merkaz Sets $10;000
Budget for the Year

Adopting a budget of $10,000
to be needed for its activities
during the new year, the Naad
Harabonim and Merkaz at a
conference on Aug. 26 at the
Beth Abraham Synagogue adopt-
ed the follo'Wing resolution:s
1 All local synagogues are
beseeched that they may uphold
the sacred work involved in the
activities developed by the Merk-
az (Central Committee for fur-
therance of Torah and Orthodox
Judaism) in cooperation with
the Vaad Harabonim.
a--1`o base Judaism upon Tor-
ah principles; 13-L.-Observance of
the Holy Sabbath within and
around the synagogues shall be-
come realized; c-explain to the
people in mourning that • they
haVe to put 'on - phylacteries
(tphilin) during their •norning
prayers; •d-that candidates for
confirmation (Bat Mitzvah)shall
get acquainted with a minimum
of religious Studies' and • customs
before they becoine Bar - Mitz-
vah; e-that Jewish religious ed-
ucation, Kashruth , and taharath

ed within Jewish life. • •
2-An amount of $10,000 will
be needed for the activities of
Merkaz • for the Jewish New

day at Ira Kaufman funeral home.

for nearly 20 years Sexton of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
who retired from this post four
years ago to settle in Florida, is
on 'a visit in Detroit. On Thurs-
day evening • he was honored by
the congregation and its Men's
Club at a reception.

social, cultural, educational and

ers at Palm Beach Recreation.

Alfred • Meissinger, the Nazi
hangman who supervised the ex-
termination of several hundred
thousand Warsaw ghetto in-
ternees by means of slave labor,,
shooting on sight, and deporta-
tion to death camps, was arrest-
ed in Japan on Rosh Hashanah
eve, three years to the day after
the two-day wholesale execution
of 10,000 Warsaw Jewish child-
ren on his orders.
