Chaplain Lymon Pens New Year's
Message from Pacific on V-J Day
'Jewish Parochial School's Aims Outlined by Rabbi Wohlge-
Lt. Herschel Lymon, Chap-
lain with the U. S. Army, now
stationed at • Okinawa, former
educational director of Temple
Beth El, Detroit, sends us the
following New Year message
which he wrote on V-J Day:
"From the historic island of
Okinawa, the last great battle-
field of the war, and 'on the day
of victory over our enemies, my
thoughts turn to you at home.
Though separated by thousands
of miles of ocean, we soldiers
overseas rejoice with you who
have also made possible the ad-
vent of - this glorious day'. We
thank God " for allowing us to
see this day and to be glad
therein.
"I have seen the glory of
Israel's unstinting contribution
to the mighty war effort of our
country and that of the United
Nations, I have witnessed how
our soldiers have greatly "en-
hanced the honor and the pres-
tige of the Jewish people.
"We solemnly swear that we
shall ever cherish in our hearts
the memory of our brothers
who by their supreme sacrifice
on every battlefield of this war
have brought about this sacred
hour of victory. The memory of
them enshrined then in our
hearts, they are now part of the
earth. But they have become
immortal, for the earth endur-
eth forever!
"We, both the living and the
dead, have inscribed one more
great and hallowed page in the
heroic book of our history!
