Polish Prime Minister Asked
To Curb Anti-Jewish Terror
NEW YORK, (JTA)—An ap-
peal to Polish Minister Edward
Osubska-Morawski, asking him
to act so that the massacres of
Jews in liberated Poland may "be
stopped at once," was cabled by
the Federation of Polish Jews in
America following the reports of
various anti-Jewish outbreaks in
Cracow and the vicinity.
"Deeply shocked by pogroms
in Cracow following systematic
murder of Jews by anti-Semitic
bands in Poland," says the cable
signed by Dr. Joseph Tenen-
baum, president of the Federa-
tion. "I urge your government
to take stern measures to punish
perpetrators of crimes against
Jews and stop further pogroms
against remaining Jews. Consci-
ous of the fact that these acts
of barbarism are instigated by
fascict and reactionary elements
within and outside Poland in
order to embarrass your govern-
ment it is absolutely necessary
for the good name. of Poland for
future relations of ..:the world to
Poland that these massacres be
stopped at once. Hitlerism must
die with Hitler and a revival of
fascism cannot be permitted in
a free Poland."
Dr. Tenenbaum also sent an ap-
peal to . British Ambassador Lord
Halifax in Washington asking
him to call the attention of the
British Government to the fact
that "the systematic murder now
going on in Poland is an in-
direct result of the closing of the
doors of Palestine and thus com-
pelling Jews to return to Poland
where anti-Semitic reactionary
forces are waiting to destroy
them.

Two Killed, Many Injured as Gang Crashes Into Synagogue
During Services; Jewish Homes Looted; Governor
Condemns Fascist Elements for Disturbances
The Jewish leader, who wit-
nessed the Cracow riots, gave
the • Jewish Telegraphic Agency
a first-hand report of the events
which, he said, provoked a wave
of protests all over Poland. The
outbreaks, he related, started on
Aug. 11. The first disturbances
broke out in front of a synagogue.
Polish traders in second-hand
goods spread a rumor that the
Jews had seized Polish children
and were hiding them in the
synagogue. -
As a result, about 60 hooligans
began at attack on the synagogue
in which services • were being
held. The worshippers resisted,
but the gang succeeded in push-
ing into the synagogue where a
hand-to-hand fight raged until
police arrived and restored order.
Invade Jewish Homes
After being ousted from the
synagogue, the gang began at-
tacking Jews on the streets.
Some of them invaded Jewish
houses and started looting. In the
ensuing struggle one Jewish
woman was killed and several
injured.
On the same evening the anti-
Jewish disturbances were re-
newed when another group broke
into the synagogue and set the
building afire.
Authorities, aware of the fact
that the anti-Jewish outbreaks
were instigated by fascist ele-
ments who oppose the present
regime, became very much dis-
turbed. The governor of Cracow,
Adam Ostrowski, called a con-
ference the next day of rep-
resentatives of the four Polish
political parties. The conference
resulted in a joint declaration
strongly condemning the out-
rages. Resolution's condemning
the riots were also- adopted at
public meetings in factories and
in workshops.
Several Germans Held
Those arrested are being held
for interrogation by the security
authorities, Mr. Bitter reported.
Among them, are several Germans
who previously had participated
in anti-Jewish disturbances.
