Detroiter Named Sole U. S. Representative for Shaarei
Chessed Gemiluth Chassadim Haklali of Palestine; Dona-
tions Needed to Help Jews Seeking Free Loans

Announcement was made this
week that Shaarei Chessed Gem-
iluth Chassadim Haklali of
Jerusalem, Palestine, has named
Rabbi Joseph Eisenman of De-
troit as its sole representative in
this country.
Upon receiving the appoint-
ment, Rabbi Eisenman stated
that he personally had occasion
upon his visit in Palestine sev-
eral years ago, to see the results
of the work of this institution
and, that he finds it one of the
most important in Eretz Israel.
Rabbi Eisenman states that this
institution, which was formed
in 1870; has helped in the build-
ing of homes, has established a

Jewish quarter for the poor in
Jerusalem and is now assisting
many Rabbis who have escaped
from the Nazi persecutions in
Europe.
In the past year, Rabbi Eisen-
man states, this society has ad-
vanced loans totalling $130,000,
without interest.
Donations, he states, have been
used to assist the needy and to
establish homes for them.
"American Jewish help is
greatly needed, he states, in call-
ing upon Detroit Jews to make
contributions to the fund.
