Synagogues Set
To Accommodate
Non-Members
Many Plan Supplementary
Services to Eliminate
Commercial Setups
To provide religious services
under proper auspices for non-
members who have patronized
mushroom synagogues, several of
Detroit's established congrega-
tions have arranged supple-
mentary services for the High
Holy Days.
These congregations are re-
sponding to the recommendations
made by the Synagogue Com-
mittee of the Jewish Community
Council to make it unnecessary
for many people to attend ser-
vices at >mushroom synagogues
1 which have been condemned as
commercial exploitation of re-
ligion, and as offensive to the
proper observance of the Holy
Days.
Congregation Bnai Moshe, Dex-
ter and Lawrence, Beth Abraham,
Linwood near Sturtevant; Bnai
David, Elmhurst and 14th; Bnai
Zion, Humphrey near Holmur;
Mishkan Israel, Blaine near Lin-
wood, have arranged supple-
mentary services.
The Councils Synagogue Corn-
,mittee urges all who can possibly
do so to attend services conductgd
by established congregations.
The committee will meet in
October to review the efforts
made this year to reduce the
number of mushroom synagogues„
and to discuss the problem pre-
sented by congregations planning
to build synagogues within a
small area.
