OUT 0•F THE DARK PAST

American Jews are challenged, during the year 5706
which will commence next Friday evening, to build a
bridge of hope and revival for the surviving Jews of
Europe. Jewish communities in this country are sharing
in the urgent task of building a new future for the Jews
who have endured years of persecution and suffering,
through the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas
Needs and Palestine. The Joint Distribution Committee is
providing relief and rehabilitation for most of the 1,250,000

survivors from Nazism. The United Palestine Appeal is
the instrument for the development and rebuilding of
Palestine for the maximum number of homeless to be
settled in the Jewish National Home. The National Refugee
Service assists newcomers to the U. S. to adjust themselves
to American life. These agencies receive their support in
Detroit from the Allied Jewish Campaign, through the
War Chest, whose 1945 drive for $8,490,336 will be
conducted from Oct. 8 to 31.
