Klansmen Laying Groundwork for National Organization,
Which Could Nominate Reynolds as Presidential
Candidate; May Hold Parley in Detroit

The 7,000 stateless and non-repatriable Jews
remaining in the former Bergen-Belsen death
camp, have been moved to poorer quarters so
that German prisoners of war can be billeted
in the more modern barracks, Carl Levin, New
York Herald Tribune correspondent, reports
in a dispatch from Germany.
German girls, whom Allied soldiers are al:
lowed to have dates with since the lifting of
the fraternization ban, still speak worshipfully
about Adolph Hitler, hate Jews and try to
propagandize U. S. soldiers with stories of the
destruction wrought by the Allies and Russia,
on an "innocent"' Germany, James F. King,
Asseftiated Press correspondent, reports from
Stuttgart.
Commenting on the victory of the British
Labor Party, Sumner Welles, former Under-
secretary of State, states, in his column am .
pearing in the New York Herald Tribune,
that:: "In view of the categorical support for
Zionist aims, given by the Labor Party at its
annual meeting two months ago, we - may hope,
provided support is forthcoming' from the
United States, that the new British Govern-
ment will facilitate the esablishment of an
autonomous Palestine under an initial inter-
national trusteeship."

CHATTANOOGA, Term., (JTA)—Leaders of the Ku Klux Klan
are now considering the possibilities of a "national anti-Jewish-
party", which could nominate a Presidential candidate in the 1948
campaign, who may be ex-Senator Reynolds of North Carolina.
Recruitment of jobless veterans as "storm troop" gangs looms as
one of the party's projects, it is believed,
Information on the future Ku Klux Klan political program,
supported by sworn affidavits, has been obtained by a JTA cor-
respondent from southern Klan sources. While it is unknown
whether Reynolds, who several months ago formed the "Americar.
Nationalist Party," has consulted with Klan officials, this much is
certain:
1: Joe McWilliams, indicted for sedition, is touring the South
for Reynolds under the alias of Jack Williams, of Perryton, Texas,
and is soliciting funds from non-Jewish businessmen for a new poli-
tical party. Reynolds, it also is learned, has been smoothing the
path for McWilliams by sending certain businessmen and others
he regards as potential supporters a letter in advance of McWil-
liams' call.
Text of Letter Disclosed by Texas Paper
The text of the letter, as disclosed June 21 by the Waco (Texas)
Times-Herald reads as follows:\
"I have requested our representative, Mr. Jack Williams, to
call on you in the near future for the purpose of discussing with
you the matter of the formation of a new political party. I am con-
li a movement and feel, as I do, that
fident you are interested in suei
NOW is the time to give the most serious consideration to this
matter.

States. We know that you will be greatly interested for the very
particular reason that part of our program directly affects your

folds Cacucus- of Trusted Klansmen
2. J. D. Stoner, southern "gauleiter"/Of the Ku Klux Klan, who
is stationed in Chattanooga, recently held a caucus•of trusted Klans-
men at his-home here for purposes of discussing a "national anti-
Jewish party" and studying possible candidates for the White
House. Aside from Reynolds, candidates discussed by Klansmen
for the 1948 campaign include Charles Lindbergh and Senator
"Pappy" W. Lee O'Daniel, unofficial leader of the "Christian Amer-
ican, one of the best-financed pro-fascist groups in the 1J. S.
3. Klan leaders and "fuehrers" of a number of other fascist or-
ganizations in the nation will hold a secret convention this summer
in some midwestern city, probably 'Detroit, to discuss the project
of a mass fascist party which would unite all Nazi-minded elements.
Basic units of this group-would be community "Christian Action"
committees, similar to those set up last year in Indiana by the
Rev. J. Walter Gibson, 'a former Klan lecturer. In addition, it is
learned, there would be "storm trooper" gangs to. 'be recruited
from the ranks of unemployed ex-servicement. The affiliation of
these gangs with the parent organization, however, would be kept
secret.
The JTA correspondent has been informed that a number of
the hood-and-shirt agitators favor the name "American National-
ist" for the prospective party, which is the label already in use by
Reynolds. They like the term "nationalist" on grounds that that
label expresses the Klan's opposition not only to the Jews but to
Aryan" minorities.

In recent weeks there has been a revival of "fiery crosses" in
this section of the South. And here Klansmen have been busy
inciting Christians against Jews and white workers against Negroes.

By LANDRUM BOLLING

VIENNA, (JTA)—Prof. Ben-
zion Lazar, new head of the
Jewish Community in Vienna,
explained to this correspondent
the reasons for • the arrest bz
Russian authorities of Dr. Joseph
Lowenherz and Heinrich Bein-
field, Jewish community leaders.
The two, he said, are charged
with • collaborating with' the
Gestapo in organizing the de-
portation of Jews to extermina-
tion camps 'during the Nazi
regime.
"Thinking only to save them-
selves," he said, "Dr. Joseph
Lowenherz, his assistant, Hein-
rich Beinfield and their associ-
ates faithfully carried out the
Nazi orders for the selection of
those Viennese Jews who were
to ..be exterminated. They fre-
quently shared confiscated pro-
perty with the Gestapo. That is
why the Russians have arrested
these two."

LONDON (JTA)—After two weeks of- deliberations, the World
Zionist Conference closed. here Monday night with a proclamation
endorsing the request submitted by the Jewish Agency to the
British government asking for an immediate decision and announce-
ment on the establishment of Palestine- as a Jewish state.
A Mizrachi proposal to elect a new executive of the World
Zionist organization was voted down by the conference with 53

sentative will continue to stay out of the Executive.
The conference adjourned with a stirring appeal by David Ben-
Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, to bend
all efforts to end "the Jewish tragedy and build a Jewish State".
While a number of matters arising but of the conference were re-
ferred for decision to the Zionist Actions' Committee, the confereno#
in its proclamation emphasized that in addition to demanding an
immediate decision from the British Government on the program
for a Jewish state, the following is requested:
Important Decisions of the Conference
1. The Jewish agency for Palestine should be vested with
authority to bring in,to Palestine as many Jews as possible and to
develop the resources of • the •country.
2. An international loan should be granted to the Jewish
agency for the transferring of the first $1,000,000 Jews from Europe
to Palestine.
3. Reparations should be exacted from Germany to Jews in
kind for the rebuilding of Palestine; all German property in Pales-
tine should be used for the settlement of European Jews.
4. International facilities be arranged for the exit and transport
of all Jews in European countries who may wish to emigrate to
Palestine.
Appeal to Arabs with Offer for Unity
The conference also appealed to the Arabs to realize the tragedy
-
of the Jewish people. It expressed the hope that the peoples of the
Midddle East will appreciate the spirit of Jewish work in Palestine
and emphasized that "a Jewish Palestine will be happy to cooperate
with the Arabs for the good of all."
A resOlution offered by leaders of the Hashomer Hatzair that
Palestine be established as an Arab-Jewish state with a Jewish
majority was rejected by the conference. Another resolution of-
fered by the Jewish State Party stating that the whole world
condems the Arab opposition to the establishment of a Jewish state
and urging an exchange of Jews in the Middle East for Arabs in
Palestine was similarly rejected.
The Zionist Actions Committee on Tuesday appointed a special
commission of five to go into the legal details of proposed changes
in the composition of the world Zionist executive with a view to
have Dr. Abba Hillel Silver • and Dr. Stephen S. Wise included in
the executive as full-fledged members.

It has now been certified that 95,000 Dutch
Jews were murdered by the Nazis, most of,,,

Communists and apostates, are among the 567
members of the Free-German movement in

Emma Zonneman Goering, wife of ex-

ing trial as a war criminal, claims that it was
through• her influence over the number-two
Nazi that the lives of many of her former Jew-
ish friends, particularly artists and writers,
were saved. Mrs. Goering claims she has
nothing left of the furs and jewels confiscat-
ed from Jews - by her husband and given to
her. She is reportedly seeking a divorce.
