ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Herbert Lee Mandell, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Mandell of 2301 W. Philadelphia Ave., is spending the summer at
the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Mich. He is taking private
lessons under the direction of Mr. Altvater, dean of the Musical
Academy of North Carolina, who is working with pupils of ex-
ceptional talent.
Capt. Henry Spitzer, upon his return from St. Petersburg, Fla.,
spent a few days with his mother and brother at their home on
Pasadena Ave., before reporting for his new assignment as psy-
chiatrist in the army hospital at Plattsburg, N. Y.
Lt. and Mrs. Abraham Grunt and infant daughter, Rose De-
borah, have returned to Ft. Benning, Ga., after spending their
leave with family and friends. Lt. Grunt's sister, Lillian Grunt, is
joining them for the summer, after which she will return to com-
plete her senior year at the University of Michigan. Mr. and Mrs.
Nathan Grunt gave a dinner party in honor of their son's birthday
which occurred during his stay here. Mrs. Grunt was entertained
by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry Krohner of Gladstone Ave.
Mrs. Norman Graff and Mrs. David Balmuth gave a farewell
party last Saturday evening in honor of Miss Ada Schreiber who
IS leaving the city to make her home in Los Angeles.
A/O Gerald D. Gilbert (USNR), son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
A. Gilbert of Byron Ave., is home on a 15-day leave from Alameda
Naval Air Station, Calif.
Cpl. David S. Meyers is spending a 30-day furlough here with
his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Simon H. Diamond.
Sgt. Bernard Rosenthal left Tuesday for his new post at Kearns,
Utah, following a furlough spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Rosenthal of the Belcrest Hotel.
Mrs. Robert Morrison and her small daughter, Rosalie, who
have been making their home. with Mrs. Morrison's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Marwil, left last Saturday for San Francisco, where
they will join Capt. Morrison.
Cpl. Jack a Fromm who recently returned from a year's over-
seas service and is on a 45-day furlough is spending a fortnight in
Interlochen with his mother, Mrs. A. Anthony Fromm of Hunting-
ton Woods, and his brother, Thomas E. Fromm, a counsellor at the
camp.
Pfc. Donald S. Schiller who returned this week from 13 months
overseas is spending his 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. earl Schiller of Woodingham Dr. before leaving for the Pacific
area.
Pfc. Leonard Frank who returned this week from six months
overseas is spending his 30-day furlough with his wife and small
daughter, Sharron, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Frank of
Chicago Blvd., before reporting for re-assignment.
Sgt. and Mrs. Arthur Schubiner and their small daughter,
Ronna Jo, ;- • spending a few days in Cedar Pointe where they
went to visit • hil mother, Mrs. Henry Schubiner. Upon their return
they will be the guests of Mrs. Schubiner's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Max Bussey of Santa Barbara. Sgt. Schubiner is on a two weeks'
furlough from Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.
Cpl. David Kohlenberg who recently returned after a year over-
seas is spending 30-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Kohlenberg of Leslie Ave.
Cpl. Joseph Lefkofsky who has recently returned after a year
overseas is spending his 30-day furlmigh with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Goodma
n Lefkofsky of Philadelphia Ave. Mr. and Mrs.
Lefkofsky also have as their guests their son-in-law and daughter,
Sgt. and Mrs. Mitchell Feldman, and their small son, Joel. Sgt.
Feldman is on a 15-day furlough from Longview, Tex.
