Sees 'Bloody Events' Unless
White Paper Is Repealed
Ben-Gurion Says Jews Will Not Tolerate Ghetto in Pales-
tine; Says American Public Opinion Can
Prevent "a Big Tragedy"
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Reiterating his warnings of bloody
events in Palestine if the White Paper is not abolished by the
British Government, David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the execu-
tive of the Jewish Agency, told a press conference here that only
American public opinion can prevent "a big tragedy" by convinc-
ing Britain that Palestine must be open to Jewish immigration.
"I speak in the name of all the 600,000 Jews of Palestine when
I say that we are not ready to tolerate any longer the White Paper
restrictions," Ben Gurion said. "If not for our strong desire to help
the Allies in winning the war," we would have ceased tolerating
these restrictions long ago. But the war in Europe is over, and we
will not agree any longer to a ghetto regime imposed upon us by
a power which we consider an alien in Palestine."
The leader of the Jewish Agency emphasized that during his
stay in the United States he will make an effort to bring about
unity among all Jews in this country for the purpose of winning
the support of the United States for Jewish claims on Palestine.
"We are on the eve of historic decisions with regard to Pales-
tine," Ben-Gurion declared. "These decisions may be in favor of
our demand for the establishment of Palestine as Jewish State,
or they may be against us. Both are possible. But one thing is
certain: should Britain decide to maintain its White Paper restric-
tions, there are no less than 250,000 able-bodied men and women
among the 600,000 Jews in Palestine."
Reviewing the difficulties created by the White Paper for the
Jewish development of Palestine, Ben-Gurion charged the British
Government with responsibility for the mass-murder of many
thousands of Jews in Europe during the Nazi regime, pointing
out that these Jews could have been absorbed in Palestine had
Britain not introduced immigration restrictions. He said that Pal-
estine could easily absorb a million more Jews if the country were
open to Jewish immigration.
The Zionist leader reported that in France, which he recently
visited, many Jews are adopting Catholicism, but on the other
hand many Jews who were never nationalist-minded are now
staunch supporters of Zionism and are ready to fight for the es-
tablishment of Palestine as a Jewish State.

Commission On Community
Inter-Relations Set Up
to Carry Out Job
NEW YORK, (JTA) —Details
of a new scientific attack on
anti-Semitism and other minor-
ity problems in the United States
were announced here by the
American Jewish Congress which
has created a Commission on
Community I n t e r-relations to
carry out the job. The attack is
based on a two-fold approach—
to study the reasons for tension
and conflict and to conduct an
action program to overcome reli-
gious and racial frictions.
The American Jewish Congress
has underwritten its new com-
mission for a period of five years
of operation. Charles E. Hen-
dry, former national director of
research for the Boy Scouts of
America, is coordinator of re-
search in charge of over-all oper-
ations. Associate coordinator is
Bernard Gittelson, who was di-
rector of research for New York
State's Commission Against Dis-
crimination which drafted New
York's recently-enacted anti-
discrimination law.
A close tie-up that has been
arranged with a new agency, the
Rogosin Foundation, also set up
for a period of five years to
carry out a leadership training
program for key men and wo-
men in various American com-
munities. Persons eligible to
participate will be brought to
New York for special courses in
community relations. The
Foundation is financed by Israel

Mr. Hendry's general direction.
Launch $4,000,000
Palestinian Fleet
As part of its program to in-
crease the flow of Jewish im-
migration into Palestine, the
Jewish Agency has invested
$400,000 in the new National
Shipping Corporation, "Ziyam,"
which is forming a maritime
fleet with a capital of $4,000,000.
A fleet of these proportions
could bring large numbers from
Europe to the Jewish National
Home and employe thousands of
new immigrants in the ports and
on the sea, as sailors, fishermen,
shipbuilders, etc. United Pales-
tine Appeal funds are utilized to
sustain every aspect of the pro-
gram of the Jewish Agency.
