Place Faith in God

"Do any of us know how to
fight? Do any of us know how
to survive? Or is it something
bigger that brings some of us
through? . . . I don't know. I
should have died a dozen times,
but I didn't. Was it the faith I
placed in God? Others had plac-
ed their faith in God, but they
died. Was it the prayers and
faith of my loved ones? Others
had loved ones, but they died.
What is the answer? I don't
know.
"I still have my faith, I will put
my trust in God, I still cling to
the faith and prayers of my loved
ones. Without that I am lost."
Pfc. Cascade, who has been
overseas since October, is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Osher Goldberg.

An Answer to Anti-Zionists

Finds Liberated Jews
Want to Go to Palestine

S/Sgt. Fitlow Learns of Nazi Atrocities From Inmates of
Concentration Camps; Survivors Tell of Seeing
Families Slain, Detroiter Writes

A poignant answer to the
anti-Zionists who deplore the
establishment of a flourishing
Jewish homeland in Palestine, is
contained in a letter written
by S/Sgt. Harry Fitlow to his
family. He writes:
"It is one of -the hardest
things in the world to under-
stand how civilized people can
take other people and do to
them what the Germans did.
Everyone of these men and
women told me that they want-
ed to go to Palestine, as that is
the only place that they now
have that can be called home
by the Jews."

Helpful Suggestions

Cited as being the man who
contributed more than any oth-
er enlisted man within the com-
pany to the efficiency of his unit
and to the morale and welfare
of its personnel, the citation goes
on to say that "he was most val-
uable in the procurement of
much-needed supplies for urgent
bridge and road work, and by
his keen perception and helpful
suggestions, were instrumental
in improving the company in all
departments of activity."
Sgt. Wesson wears the good
conduct medal and the EAME

for his participation in the Sicil-

Weapons Sergeant

Sgt. Wesson, who serves as a
weapons sergeant with an en-
gineer combat battalion, has been
dubbed by his commanding of-
ficer overseas, "A one man re-
connaissance section." His abil-
ity to find quarters and resour-
ces for his company has become
legendary and all the more ad-
mirable because his remarkable
feats were performed in addi-
tion to his basic assignment as
weapons sergeant.
Sgt. Neil Weison, 39, was mar-
ried four years ago to the for-
mer Sarah Komaroff, who re-
sides at 3353 Boston Blvd. He
entered service on April 30, 1942,
and trained in Florida, Califor-

most of his time in the States
on maneuvers, and has been
overseas since June 1943.

placed in holes twhich they -were
forced to dig themselves. The
Germans stoned them and then
covered the holes."
S/Sgt. Fitlow also describes
the appearance of these people,
saying that they looked like old
men despite their actual youth.
They were emaciated and their
backs were welted by inhuman
lashings.
