House Resolution Asks U. S.
Recognize 'Hebrew State'

Bi-Partisan Measure Supporting Establishment of "Free
State" Has the Support of 30 Congressmen; Zionist
Emergency Council Denounces Bergson's Resolution

WASHINGTON, (JTA)—A bi-partisan measure sup-
porting establishment of a "free Hebrew state" in Palestine
and its recognition by the U. S. has been introduced in the
House by Representatives Andrew Somers, Democrat, and
Augustus Bennett, Republican, of New York.
The House resolution carries the support of 30 congress-
men, a number of whom plan to

introduce similar resolutions.
These sponsors include Demo-
cratic Representatives Helen
Gahagan Douglas of California,
Estes Kefauver of Tennessee,
Thomas J. Lane of Massachusetts,
Pat Cannon of Florida, and Re-
publican Representative Homer
.Angell of Oregon.
Support of the resolution was
expressed by House majority
leader Joseph Martin.

the councils and agencies of the
United Nations" was sent by
Senator Connally (D. Tex.),
member of the U. S. delegation,
Senator Murray disclosed here.

Palestine Economic Corp. Announces
Long-Range Plans for Irrigation

NEW YORK—Long - range
plans for an irrigation system
that reach throughout Pal-
estine have been made by the
Palestine Economic Corp., the
largest American business en-
terprise in that country, it was
announced by Julius Sim on,
president of the corporation.
Mr. Simon, whose headquart-
ers are in Jerusalem, has arrived
in the U. S. for a brief visit and
to arange for export of Ameri-
can machinery to Palestine.
When interviewed in the New

York offices of the Corporation,
570 Lexington Ave., Mr. Simon
said that the irrigation system
which has been planned with the
aid of American experts will per-
mit irrigation of approximately
750,000 acres and make possible
the establishment of about 100,-
000 additional farms with a total
farming population of 500,000
persons.
He pointed out that the plan
calls for the irrigation of 135,000
acres for Jewish settlers.
