Varied Program to Feature
Bikurim Festival on Sunday

All arrangements have been
completed for the Bikurim Fes-
tival sponsored by the United
Hebrew Schools,* Shaarey Zedek
Schools, Farband Shulen, Sholem
Aleichem Institute and the Zion-
ist Youth Groups, to be held this
Sunday, May 27, at 11 a. • m. in
the Shaarey Zedek Social Hall. .
Among the features will be an
Operetta in English, written by
Sirnha Rubenstein, depicting the
life of Ruth and her mother-in-
law, Naomi, from the time Naomi
leaves the land. of Yehuda until
her return from Moab. This
operetta will be staged by mem-
bers of the Shaarey Zedek Sun-
day School.
There also will be a playlet in
Hebrew written by Bernard
Isaacs and staged by members of
the Hebrew High school of the
United Schools.

Mothers' Clubs

A book shower will be sponsor-
ed by the various Mothers' Clubs
to re-stock European Jewry with
books on Jewish religion and
Jewish literature.
Fenkell Mothers' Club will

`Jewish Review' Enters
Third Year of Existence

"The Jewish Review," a quart-
erly devoted to the study and in-
terpretation of Jewish life and
thought, has entered the third
year of its existence. During the
first two years of publication,
1,000 pages were printed deal-
ing with Jewish historical, soci-
ological, literary-historical and
pedagogical topics.
. The April issue contains a
wealth of interesting material.
B. Glassman has written a
critique of J. L. Peretz, and in-
toduces new facts pertaining to
the author; Prof. Solomon
Kahan has contributed an in-
teresting socio-economic study
of 'The Jew in Mexico - ; N. Gold-
berg characterizes the "Occupa-
tional Patterns of American
Jews" at the beiginning of the
20th Century; D. Weinryb's
"Nazification of Jewish Learn-
ing" analyzes activities of re-
search institutions in Germany
and their attempts to interpret
Jewish history according to the
Nazi doctorines.

Mrs. Mildred Jeffrey, director,
Women's BureaU, War Policy
Division, UAW-CIO, will be guest
speaker at -the third of a series of
tea-talks at the Center on June
3, at 3:30, in the main auditorium,
on the subject "Careers For the
Woman of Today—And Tomor-
row."
A short musical program by
Gloria Lefko will be presented.

Dr. Rothman. to Address
B. and P. Group Thursday
Business and Professional Dis-
cussion, Group . of the Jewish
Community Center meets every
Thursday at 9 p. m., in the Gins-
burg Lounge of the Center. The
public is invited.
Next Thursday, Dr. Robert
' Rothman will present the third
lecture in his series on "Social
Philosophies." Dr. Rothman is on
the staff of the Workers' Educa-
tional Service of the Michigan
University Extension. The session
on May 31 will be devoted to an
analysis of "The Political System
of Fascism and Communism."

BUCHAREST. (JTA) — High-
ranking officers of the pro-Nazi
Romanian Government were sen-
tenced to death Wednesday by
the People's Court for deporta-
tion and murder of thousands of
Jews who were sent to Trans-
Nistria. Defendents were among
the first group of war criminals
to go on trial here. Twenty-nine
of the accused were sentenced to
death , eight received varying
terms of imprisonment, one was
acquitted.

JERUSALEM. (JTA) —T h e
first world Zionist conference
since the outbreak of the war
will probably be held in London
in July, it was decided by the
Executive of the World Zionist
Organization. All members of
Zionist Actions Committee re-
siding in Europe, Palestine and
the United States will be asked
to attend as will representatives
of Vaad Leumi and other Zionist
bodies. Conference's decision will

tions next Sunday evening at

The meeting will be featured
by a concert in which the guest
artists will be Maxim Brodyn,
singer of Jewish folksongs, and

rusalem, graduate of N.Y.U.. and
Yavneh Yeshivah, is a delegate
to the American 'Jewish Confer-
ence and a leader in Wisconsin
Jewish affairs.
Tickets, distributed through
member organizations of the
United Yiddish Folk Organiza-
tions, will be on sale at 'the door.
Officers of the UYFO are
Charles Driker, president: Alex
Nussbaum, chairman of the ex-
ecutive committee; Alex Belkin,
treasurer; and Samuel Weisman,
secretary.

porting the Jewish Agency

and backing demands for large-
scale Jewish immigration.

reports that Leon Serowski, 40,
Pole, who managed Warsaw
factories during Nazi occupation,
was sentenced to death for per-
secuting and mistreating Jewish
workers, by special Warsaw
court. .
One thousand Palestinian Jews
freed from German prison camps
already reached England; 400
left Wednesday for Palestine.
