Arlazaroff Sets $500,000
Bond Goal to Honor Heroes

Arlazaroff branch of Jewish
`National Workers' Alliance, at a
t rally of members and friends at
the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg. on
April 18, recorded another tri-
umph for its members' activities
in behalf of local causes by re-
' porting that this branch alone
'had raised $45,000 towards the
total of nearly $100,000 in the
1945 Histadrut - Gewerkshaften
campaign.
Harry Schumer, chairman of
the Seventh War Loan drive for
the City Committee of the Far-
F band, announced that it was de-
cided to double the original goal
'tor the coming bond drive and
. to aim to raise a total of $500,000
in tribute to the memory of Lt.
, Daniel Ginsburg and Pfc. Robert
P. Weisman, sons of Farband
members.

next Thursday evening, on the
subject "Labor and the Peace,"
in the Ginsburg Lounge of the
Jewish Center. All are invited.

spoke in their honor. Morris L.
Schaver, who presided, announc-
ed that the branch had inscribed
the Lindens' names in the Gold-
en Book of the Jewish National

Mr. Linden, responding to the
toasts, after a brief address by
Mrs. Linden, announced that
they were in turn inscribing Ar-
lazaroff - branch as well as Poale
Zioh Branch 3 in the Golden
Book of the JNF.
Arlazaroff branch's next meet-
ing, on Wednesday, will be ad-
dressed by Arnold A. Weitzman,
prominent local engineer who
has made a study of important
issues affecting Palestine and
Jewish life generally.

clude one-act plays by Sholem
Aleichem and J. L. Peretz and
other features. Meyer Eisen-
berg is the director.

`Hay Fever,' May 4-5

Wayne University Theater pro-

comedy, "Hay Fever," will be
presented at the Maccabees Audi-

Panama Merchants Ass'n,
Attacks Jewish Traders

NEW YORK (JTA)—An at-
tack upon Jewish businessmen in
Panama is contained in an ad-
vertisement published by the As-
sociation of Panama Merchants
and Industrialists in Panaman-
ian newspapers received here.
The advertisement says, in
part: "Gradually Chinese, Jap-
anese, Hindus and Polakos (this
term is used for Jews) have
come, taking hold first of all of

our commerce."

Tennis Instruction Course
To Begin at Center
The Jewish Community Center
is offering an elementary eight-
week course in tennis instruc-
tion, beginning May 1, to full
Center members, both men and
women..
Instruction will be given by
Helen Grau, director of health
education for women, every

At the Center This Sunday
Paul Leash and his Sophis-To-
Cats, with the well known vo-
calist Tabby, will furnish the
music for a Lag b'Omer dance
this Sunday evening, in the main
auditorium. This dance will
mark the 23rd Holiday Hop.
The auditorium will be decor-
ated in keeping with the spirit of
Lag b'Omer. The decorations are

Ludwig Lewisohn Is Guest Speaker
At JNF Drive Rally at Center May 13

Ludwig Lewisohn, eminent Fund drive sponsored by the
essayist, novelist and lecturer, labor department of the JNF.

Mr. Schumer has expressed
confidence that the 1945 drive of

Probe Demanded
On Anti-Semitism
Charges at NYCC

NEW YORK (JPS)—A "first
hand investigation" of charges of
anti-Semitism in the hiring and
promotion of instructors in the
Romance Languages Department
of City College here, contained
in a letter from four of the de-
partment's • professors to the
Board of Higher Investigation,
was demanded jointly by the
American Jewish Congress, the
Teachers Union CIO, and the
Catholic Committee for Human
Rights.
Rabbi J. X. Cohen, chairman
of the American JeWish Con-
()Tess' Commission on Economic
Discrimination, said that his
committee first investigated
"discriminatory practices" in the
department in the fall of 1943.
At that time Dr. Harry N.
Wright, President of City Col-
lege, following his own investiga-
tion of the matter, said there
was no basis for charges of dis-
crimination.

At a special session held last

Rabbis and Merkaz met with of-
