Interesting Incident Reporting on his trip • Chap- lain Goldberg says, "One of the most moving experiences - during, my trip overseas was an incident at a cemetery. The Army offi- cer in charge invited us to look at the old cemetery where Amer- ican lads of the first World War were buried. The crosses there were cast in cement. On some of them I noticed strange inscrip- tions: 'Here in honor lies an ' American soldier, known but to 1 God.' An unknown soldier! Then my eye caught the sight of a Star cif David with the same inscription. 'Strange,' said I to myself, 'how could • he be un- known if they knew that he was a Jew?' "The officer noticed the ex- pression in my eyes and came forth with the explanation. 'We do not know whether he was a Jew, Catholic or Protestant. He is unknown. That Star of David was put on this grave as a tri- ,bute to the men of the Jewish faith who fought - at the side of their fellow Americans for demo- cracy and freedom'." years.
