An appeal by Chief Rabbi Dr. I. J. Hertz
and the Beth Din (Jewish Religious Court)
against mixed marriages, was read in all the
-synagogues of London and the provinces dur-
ing the Passover week. The Liberal (Reform)
synagogues did not broadcast the Chief Rabbi's
proclamation addressed to the Jewish com-
munities of Britain and her dominions.
The London Polish Government has an-
nounced that the International Red Cross has
queried, on its behalf, the German Govern-
ment regarding charges that Polish Jewish
soldiers are kept in ghettos, -separated f:om
other Polish soldiers in German war eamps.
The London Polish Government has also ask-
ed the Government of Britain and the United
,States to intervene in this matter.
The first Gerrnans captured by the Jewish
Brigade, reported by BBC, were brought in
by Lt. Tony Van Gelder, of London, known
throughout the Brigade as "Mickey Rooney"
because of his strong resemblance to the movie
star.
, Recently three Jewish' women were cited
by the Soviet press. They are: Lena Stern,
director of the Institute of Physiology; Rachel
Freidlin, Candidate for Chemical Science, and
Rebecca Levine, Doctor of -Economics, recent-
ly, returned from a trip to America and spe-
cializing in problems connected- with agri-
