Franklin Delano Roosevelt

By DR. NOAH E. ARONSTAM

For these things I weep, mine eye, mine eye run-
neth down with water.
—Lamentations 1.16.

Wail ye cypress trees, a cedar bath
A mighty cedar of Lebanon.'
The world has lost her greatest son.
Israel has lost a friend.
Like unto Moses
To him was not vouchsafed to share the Victory
Nor the advent of Peace for which he strove.
Wail ye cypress trees, a mighty cedar bath fallen!
Convinced of the destiny of our people,
To the world he • thus proclaimed:
"Israel once more shall reclaim
His heritage
In the land of his ancestors."
Inspired by the pledge of phophecy
He solemnly 1,)owed to advance
The historical aspirations of our people.
Can words express our grief? .
Can words assuage our sorrow?
Let the bells toll and announce anew:
"Hear ye denizens of all the lands:
A mighty cedar hath fallen)
A pillar. of Righteousness and Peace,
A Peace that shall endure,
A Peace that will descend
Om all the inhabitants of the Earth;
The Peace that shall restore
.4 safe and lasting abode
To our harrassed race."

May his memory serve as a blessing.
For age and evermore!
