ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zuckerman of the Book Cadillac Hotel
returned .on Tuesday from a few days in New York City where
they went to meet their son Lt. James Zuckerman who is stationed

Paul May, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald May of Wildemere
Ave., has left for the Great Lakes Naval Training Center where
he will receive his boot training.
Prof. and Mrs. Samuel M. Levin of Broadstreet Blvd. have
es their guests their _daughter, Mrs. Stanley Friedman, and her
Small daughter Joan of Columbus, 0. Cpl. Friedman who spent
* few days with his family has already returned to Columbus.
Their son, Lt. Joseph Levin, who spent a few days leave with his
parents, has returned to his post at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Welt have moved from the Statler Hotel
and are now residing at 825 Whitmore road.
Warrant Officer II Robert Marks, RCAF, who has been sta-
tioned at Mountainview, Ont.
Ont. is spending a two-week embarka-
tion leave with his parents, , and Mrs. Rudolph Marks of the
Wilshire Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Rodecker of the Park Lane Apt. are
Irisiting their son, S 2/c Arthur Rodecker, in Memphis, Tenn.
T/4 Jack Galinski, 32nd Red Arrow Division, who has , recently
returned from 34 months service in Australia and New Guinea is
spending a 21-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Galinski of Tyler Ave., after which he will report to Miami Beach
for re-assignment.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Feinberg of Oak Dr. had as their
guests for a few days their sons, Pfc. Robert M., who has recently
returned from overseas duty, and C/M Norman E., who is serving
with the Merchant Marine.
- Lt. Marwell M. Hoffman left Thursday • for his post at Camp
Peary, Va.
Va., following a 13-day leave spent with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs.
Hoffman of LaSalle Blvd.
Capt. Alex Olenikoff, who recently has returned • from 18
months service in New Guinea, is spending a 30-day leave with
bis family in their home in Santa Barbara Ave.
Miss Betty Goldberg of the Belcrest was home on a 10-day irac'a-

Miss Nancy Levin returned on Sunday to Annedale, N. Y.,
where she is a student at Bard College after spending a week's
vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Levin of Muirland
Ave.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Seligson of
Kentucky Ave. announce the en-
gagement of their daughter,
Nettie Ceile, to Dr. Albert A.
Schwartz, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Schwartz.
Miss Seligson is an honor
graduate of Wayne University's
College of Education where she
received her B. A. Degree. She
also did graduate work at the
University. She is a former pre-
sident of Avukah and of Sigma
Theta Delta sorority.
Dr. Schwartz is an honor
graduate of the CarnEigie Insti-
tute of Technology where he
was editor of the paper -"Tartan",
and fr`dm which he received. his
B. A. Degree. He did graduate
work at Wayne University and
received his Ph. D. in chemistry-
while on a fellowship at Western
Reserve University. He was
graduated from the Hebrew In-
stitute of Pittsburgh and attend-
ed its Teachers' College.
A member of the honorary
scholastic fraternity, Phi Kappa
Phi, and of the honorary physics
fraternity, Sigma Pi Sigma, _Dr.
Schwartz is chemical and tech-
nical director at a local chem-
ical plant.

Mrs. Abe Bassin of Richton
Ave. announces the engagement
of her daughter, Ruthe Anne, to
Capt. Saul C. Stein, son of Mrs.
Vera Stein of Cherrylawn Ave.
The bride-elect is a graduate of
Wayne University' and the Unit-
ed Hebrew Schools. Capt. Stein
attended Wayne and the Uni-
versity of Michigan College of
Medicine. He served in the Aleu-
tians for 21 months and at pres-
ent is stationed in Seattle, Wash
They - will be married in June.

cert at the Detroit Institute of

under the chairmanship of Mrs.
Oscar M. Zemon.
"We believe the Center will
add to its stature as 'a cultural
force in the community when the
lights go up on Jose Limon and
his two assistant dancers, Bea-
trice Seckler and Dorothy Bird,
April 18, for they will reveal
three outstanding personalities
in the modern dance field," Mrs.
Zemon said
Mexican-born Jose Limon is
recognized by public and critics
alike as one of the greatest male
dancers of today. A member of
e armed forces, Pvt. Limon
has produced and performed
many shows for Army camp
entertainment. He will appear in
Detroit while on furlough.
A student of Martha Graham's,
Miss Bird has won acclaim as a
featured dancer in many Broad=
way shows/ among them the
"Straw Hat Revue" and "Lady
In The Dark."
Modern dance followers re-
member Beatrice Seckler in
leading roles with the Hum-
phrey-Weidman dance troupe
and New Yorkers applauded her
headline appearances at the
Roxy Theater. Both Miss Seckler
and Pvt. Limon are depicted in
the photographic exhibit of mod-
ern dance by Barbara Morgan,
now on display in the Detroit
Institute of Arts.-

prior to her departure for Cali-
fornia to be present at her
mother's 83rd birthday.

the home of the president, Mrs.
Bernard M. Cohen, on Cam-
bridge Rd., March 20, and nom-
inated officers. Mrs. ' I. Erman
is chairman of the dinner party
to be held at the Detroit Leland
Hotel in commemorating the first
anniversary of the organization.
Mrs. Eve Tractenberg reported
on the progress of t h e affair
to be held in May. Contribu-
tions for the Youth Aliyah proj-
ect were accepted by Mrs. M.
Stearn. A report was given by
Mrs. William Barris.

Befty Kowalsky Gives
Center Piano Recital

Betty Kowalsky, young pian-
ist, will be presented by Juliti,4f
Chajes, Jewish Center music di-
rector, in a piano/ recital, Sun-
day afternoon, April 15, in the
Auditorium.
Miss Kowalsky was heard fre-
quently in school programs pre-
sented over local radio stations,
and participated in various con-
certs during the last two years.
Last summer Miss Kowalsky
studied with Madame Moriz Ros-
enthal, New York piano teacher.
The recital.- will be free.
