PALESTINE

The deadlock within the Histadruth, Jew-
ish. Palestine's Federation of Labor, • was re-
solved when all parties agreed at a special
20-minute •.session of the National Council of
11istadruth to form a nominations committee
for electing officers to the economic institu-
tions of the Histadruth. The nominations
committee is to consist of nine members—five
of Mapai, the • majority group, and four rep-
resenting the opposition groups.
The Hebrew newspaper, Haaretz, expressed
editorially its gratification over President -
Roosevelt's statement to Dr. Stephen S. Wise,
in which the President reiterated his Support
of Jewish demands regarding Palestine made
by him in October. "We never doubted Roose-
velt's attitude and his adherence to his pledge
of last October," Haaretz says in condemning
"those wise realists who, influenced by rumors,
easily indulged in talk of vote-hunting."
The largest Arab circulation daily in
Palestine, Ad Difaa, labeled as "nothing, but
wild imagination" a report in the New York
Times that the Arab foreign ministers meet-
ing in Cairo proposed a Palestine "compro-
mise" providing for the admission of only
another 200-300,000 Jews, and for political
parity between the Jews and Moslems, with
the Christian Arabs holding the balance of

Army saved 3,000 Jewish women from. Hun-

abolished, 'mixed marriages encouraged a n d

the full emancipation granted by the Govern-
ment." This group has also arranged, it is
reported, a series of anti-religious •entertain-
ments in Sofia and its provinces for the Seder .
