The newly-organized Women's
Council of the Merkaz will meet
Wednesday, April 11,. 8:30 p.m.,
at the Bnai Zion Congregation,
Humphrey a n d Holmur. The
aim of the Women's Council is
to organize the ladies' auxil-
iaries of synagogues and organi-
zations in the work of t h e
Merkaz. The temporary officers
are: Mrs. M. Fisher, Mrs. I. Stoll-
man, Mrs. I. Sosnick and Mrs.
J. Nosanchuk.
Wife. Mother, Cook. Maid of all work. Partner with her man in the
going concern we Americans call home..
More than that, as keeper-of-the-household-budget, she's salting away
every cent the family doesn't absolutely need for upkeep in a little
project she likes to call Tomorrow.
She's putting her money in WAR BONDS . . . the soundest financial
backing anyone's Tomorrow ever had.
And because she's a shrewd woman, she is determined. to hold on to,
those War Bonds in spite of any temptation she has to cash them in.
She knows that by holding her War Bonds until they mature, they'll be
worth $4 for every $3 she put into them. And she'll have that money
when Tomorrow comes !
Of course, the beauty of it all is that, in the meantime, she's giving
her country patriotic help in winning the war today!
Smart woman ! America needs millions like her.
Belgian Christians
To Retutn Children
To Jewish Custody
LONDON (J P S) —Many
Christian families in Belgium,
who sheltered Jewish war orph-
ans during the German occupa-
tion, are willing to return them
to Jewish homes if the children
are assured of proper care, • M.
Goldmuntz, treasurer of the Bel-
gian Jewish Committee in Lon-
don, just returned from Bel-
gium, reported at a meeting of
the executive of the United Jew-
ish relief in London.
While some of the non-Jewish
foster parents are reluctant to
give up the children, some Christ-
ians say that if Jewish child
_ren
are left in Catholic homes it is
only natural -that they will be
brought up as Catholics. There
are 3,200 Jewish children in Bel-
gium who must be placed in Jew-
ish homes, Mr. Goldmuntz re-
ports.
There are 20,000 Jews now in
Belgium, mostly in Brussels and
Antwerp, and a consistoire has
been formed representing all the
B e 1 Eibi a n Jewish communities.
Kosher food is provided as far
as possible but there is a lack of
Shochetim (kosher slaughterers),
Mr. Goldmuntz reports.
200 Jews in Colognes
Emerge, from Ruins,
Ask AMC for Food
COLOGNE, (JTA)—Two-hun-
dred Jews have emerged from
the ruins of Cologne and ap-
•pealed to the Allied Military
Government for food cards, the
correspondent of the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency was told by
AMG officials. Most of these are
married to non-Jews, or are the
children of "mixed marriages".
Because they were in hiding for
several months to avoid being
shipped into the interior of Ger-
many, they had been compelled
to forego food cards.
All synagogues had been
burned by the Nazis and the Al-
lied bon-Things finished the job.
There are a few other Jews
in Cologne besides the 200 who
have applied for food cards. Two
were found among the 80 pris-
oners released - from Gestapo
headquarters and 12 foreign
Jews have passed through the
wooden . barracks on the outside
of Cologne which are being used
as a sorting • pla,ce far displaced
persons.
In an old pile of clothes' in
this camp were found ghostly
remnants of the Jewish popula-
tion of Cologne.
