Decision on Zion
Demands immediate Action
To Half Closing Doors to
Immigrants This Month
NEW YORK — Welcoming
President Roosevelt's recent re-
assurance of his continued sup-
port for "a free and democratic
Jewish commonwealth," t h e
American Jewish Conference has
urged the United Nations to
reach without delay a definite
decision "so that rehabilitation
of the war-ravaged Jewish Peo-
ple in their own national home-
land may be speeded."
,Pending the decision, the state-
ment issued by t h e Palestine
Committee of t h e American
Jewish Conference stresses that
"under the 1939 White Paper
policy, all Jewish immigration
into Palestine may come to an
end this month,"- which would
be "a shocking blow to masses
of destitute Jews whose only
hope is centered on Palestine."
Anticipating that the United
Nations may assume the rights
and duties of the league in re-
gard to mandated territories, the
Conference expressed the hope
that the United Nations will
speedily implement the pledge
that was given to the Jewish
people at the conclusion of the
last war.
