Levy New President
Of Cong. Mt. Sinai

The • following officers were
eleCted by Cong. Mt. Sinai of
Port Huron; Jule J. Levy, presi-
dent; Joe Kertes, vice-president;
Eugene Bergsman, recording sec-
retary; Herman L. Goldstein, fin-
ancial secretary; Edward "R.
Goldman, treasurer.
Louis Goldman, retiring pres-
ident, was elected chairman of
the board. Other members of the
Board. are: Bernard Konop, Frank
M. Levy, Morris M. Singer and
'Alvin J. Winkelman. Ben Field
was reappointed custodian.
Rabbi Selig S. Auerbach ad-
dressed the Ladies' -Library As-
sociation on "Easter and Pass-
over in the Life of the American
Community."
Cong. Mt. Sinai joined in the
worldwide Prayer Day, on March
14, with a special service for in-
tercession and supplication, with
Rabbi Auerbach preaching on
"Help and You Will Be Helped."

Plan Model Seder
For Shaarey Zedek
Daily, Sunday Pupils

A model Seder for Sunday
school pupils of Shaarey Zedek
will be held. this Sunday morn-
ing in the Social Hall, while the
day school students, will hold
their Seder Monday afternoon.
The Sisterhood will serve re-
freshments. Members of the
Junior Congregation will per-
form all the Passover ceremon-
ials.
The Sunday School pupils are
rehearsing the operetta, "Ruth"
which they will. stage. in May.
There will be 60 students in the
cast which is being directed by
Morris Haar and Shirley Subar
of the faculty.
Pupils in .the Hebrew school
will receive report cards Mon-
day. Examinations were held
Thursday.

Curfew Hop Saturday
Plans are being completed for
the Curfew Hop Saturday night
in the Social Hall to which all
Shaarey Zedek Juniors from 14
to 17 are invited. A 10-piece
orchestra will furnish music. Re-
freshments will be served by
the Sisterhood.
The affair will begin at 8:45
p. m. and end at 11:45 p. m.. on
Saturday night, March 31, the
Junior program will consist of a
movie dancing.

Temple Israel Scouts
Launch Paper Drive

Boy Scout Troop 146, 'spon-
sored by the Men's Club of
Temple Israel, will conduct a
.scrap paper drive beginning
Sunday, to run for three con-
secutive Sundays.
A large tent will be placed
in front of the Hampton School
and all parents of Sunday School
pupils . are instructed to' bring
paper when bringing their child-
ren to school. .

Dr. Lubin Represents
U. S. on Soviet Mission

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Dr.
Isadore Lubin will represent the
U. S. on the Reparations Corn-
mission in Moscow, Sedretary of
State Stettinius announced. On
leave of absence as U. S. Com-
missioner of Labor •Statistics, Dr.
Lubin has been serving as White
House aide. Stettinius said that
it was a great personal satisfac-
tion to have Dr. Lubin as his
associate again.

Merkaz, Orthodox
Rabbis Plead for
Passover Kashrut

- George Z. Medalie, president of
the Federation of Jewish Phil-
anthropies of New York, former
U. S. district attorney in N. Y.,
and -nationally known lawyer
who is chairman of the overseas
committee of the American Jew-
ish Committee, will be the guest
speaker of Temple Beth El at the
annual Laymen's Service this
Friday evening, at 8:15 o'clock.
His subject will be "The Status
of the Jew in 'the Postwar
World."
The following members of the
Men's Club will participate in
the service: Fred M. Butzel, Dr.
Herbert I. Kallet and Benjamin
Wilk. Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
introduce the speaker.
The musical program will be
rendered by the Temple Quartet
with Julius Chajes directing and
Jason Tickton at the organ. A
social hour under the auspices
of the Sisterhood will follow.

Dr. Carl 0. Smith, associate
professor of
government at
Wayne University, addressed the
Council of Jewish Women last
Monday at the Jewish Center.
He discussed the Dumbarton
Oakes agreements.

ica, sponsored by the National
Jewish Welfare Board, has an-
nounced the publication of a
series of specialized lists of books
of Jewish interest
"Jewish Books for Your Home,"
by Dr. Solomon Grayzel, includes
an article describing the - books
listed. "The Talmud", by Rabbi
I. Edward Kiev, is a reading list
of books on introductions. to the
Talmud and English translations.
"Jewish Life in. Many Lands'," by
Miss Iva- Co-hen, is a bibliography
that will be of interest to pro-
gram chairmen and librarians.
"Some Books of Jewish Interest
in English" contains 100 volumes.

over the program of Merkaz and
Council of Orthodox Rabbis will
be stressed from the pulpits.
The Jewish community will be

movement and other functions
pertaining to the religious and
communal life.

M. Blechman, local editor of
the Jewish Daily Forward, dis-
tinguished writer and poet, will
lecture before members and
friends of Radomer Friendly So-
ciety on Sunday evening at As-
sembly Hall, 9125 12th St. His
subject will be "The Motif of
Redemption in Jewish Litera-
ture," a theme especially suited
to a pre-Passover meeting.

The Council • urges the public
to attend Passover services.

Local institutions — Yeshivath
Beth Yehtidah, Yeshivath Chach-
mey Lublin, and the Telse Yesh-
ivah of • Cleveland will make
their annual drives. '

public to rely only on kosher
l'pesach hechschers given by rab-
bis known to the local rabbinate..
In the past years, labels have
been. falsel,y used, the Council
States.

The Council also wishes to is-
sue a warning that the macaroons
baked at this time of the year as
a Passover delicacy are chometz
unless reliable hechschers are
given. All .local bakeries have
been asked to discontinue the

NEW YORK—Prof. Albert Ein-
stein, honorary chairman of the
Jewish Council for RuSsian War
Relief, sent a letter to every
Jewish organization, stressing
the importance of their Participa-
tion in the fourth national con-
ference of the Jewish Council
for Russian War Relief; Sunday,
April 29, it was announced by
Louis Levine, national chairman
Cantor Abraham Gartenhaus of the Council.
will officiate at all services. Eve-
ning services will begin 7:30 p.m.
and. morning services at 9 a. - m.
All are welcome.

Rabbi Joshua Sperka will oc-
cupy the pulpit at Congregation
Bnai David and 'preach the first
day of Passover, March. 29, on
the subject "Pesach, Origin of
Jewish Nationalism". He will
also speak .on the second day of
Pesach on the subject "The Value
