Reunion at Sister's Wedding

Capt. Peven Back in States,
Sees Kin After 30 Months

For the first time in two and a
half years, two Detroit brothers,
Capt. Philip Peven and 1st Lt.
Louis Peven, saw each other
again when both attended the
wedding of their sister, Fay, to
Louis Newman. A surgeon with
the 5th Army, Capt. Peven ar-
rived from Italy when his leave
luckily coincided with the mar-
riage date. Lt. Peven is stationed
as a battalion dental surgeon with
the engineers at Gulfport Army
Air Field, Miss.
Following his internship at the
Michael . Reese Hospital in Chi-
cago, Capt. Peven received six
weeks of basic training and was
sent overseas with the hospital
unit, which consisted mainly of
Jewish medical officers. It was
this unit that received a com-
mendation from General Mark
Clark for performance of duty
under enemy fire in the early
Italian beachhead days.
An interesting sidelight on this
evacuation hospital's a c t i vities
were the Friday evening services
when speakers were invited over
from the Palestinian outfit s,
nearby. Among the talks were
those on Palestine as a country
and the status of the Jew in Pal-
estine. A few hospital staff mem-
bers had the opportunity of visit-
ing Tel-Aviv and returned with
