Intervention in Behalf

JERUSALEM, (Palcor)—T h e
Palestine Government contri-
butes only $120,000 toward Jew-
ish Palestine's medical aid bud-
get of $6,400,000, the Vaad Le-
umi, Jewish Palestine's National
Council, revealed this week.
The Vaad Leumi passed a re-
solution, at a plenary session
here, demanding that the gov-
ernment treat as public institu-
tions those hospitals and health
institutions which are adminis-
tered by Jewish public bodies
and proposes that the Govern-
ment's Department of Health de-
termine the hospital require-
ments of the Jewish population
in every district on a proportion-
al basis.
The figures mentioned refer to
1944. Kupath Cholim, the Sick
Benefit Society of the Histad-
ruth, with a membership of 225,-
000, contributed $4,000,000 to-
wards the total, with the re-
mainder coming from the Vaad
Leumi, local councils, and Had-
assah which maintains a tuber-
culosis hospital at Safad, as well
as the Hebrew University Hospi-
tal on Mount Scopus and other
health services..
The Government's share was
a grant-in-aid of $88,000 to the
Tel Aviv Municipal Hospital,
and $32,000 to the Vaad Leumi
school hygiene program and
services for infant welfare and
tubercular care. The Jewish
hospitals have 1,500 beds, of
which 1,129 are in Jewish pub-
lic institutions whose yearly
maintenance exceeded $1,600,000,
the burden of which evolved
entirely on the Jews.
The Vaad Leumi also adopted
a budget of $1,360,000 for educa-
tion, to which the Jewish Agen-
cy was urged to contribute $80,-
000, instead of $300,000 which
the Agency had contributed last
year. The Vaad Leumi demand-
ed a Government grant of $568,-
000.

Hitler Can't Do
That to Us!

• STOCKHOLM, (JTA)—One
of the rumors floating around
Germany, according to the
Aftontidningen,
Stockholm
daily, is that Hitler has un-
dergone facial surgery to
make him look like a Jew,
presumably to avoid capture
by the Allies.
The report, brought here by
a traveller from Germany,
says that a Jewish surgeon,
Dr. Cohn, was released from
a concentration camp to per-
form the operation and was
murdered as soon as he had
finished his work.
Hitler is supposed to have
been given a longer nose,.
rounder cheeks and a duelling
scar on his forehead to make
him resemble a Jewish uni-
versity student.

ments attesting to the fact
that they are of Jewish an-

Palestine Seen As
Health Pacemaker

WASHINGTON, D. C. (JPS)----
The importance of Palestine as a
health pacemaker in the Middle
East, was emphasized here by
Dr. Haim Yassky, director of the
Hadassah Medical Organization,
who recently arrived from Pal-
estine. Dr. Yassky said 60 Pales-
tine Jewish health and welfare
workers are on their way to Eu-
rope for the United Nations Re-
lief and. Rehabilitation Admin-
istration.
Calling for a United . Nations
health league to stamp out epi-
demics and lay the groundwork
for postwar world-wide health
work, Dr. Yassky estimated that
immediate health measures in
Palestine would cost $1,000,000
annually for every 100,000 ref-
ugees entering the country.
