Students of the Shaarey Zedek
Evening classes have organized
and elected officers. Hershel
Levine is president and Miss
Lillian Iwrey, secretary. Mem-
bers of the. student council are
Dean Milner, Lorraine Levin and
Sheldon Lutz.
The first social program of
this new student group. was held
Tuesday night, Feb. 20. Simha
Rubinstein, Shaarey Zedek edu-
cational director, and Philip Slo-
movitz,_ editor of The Jewish
News, were the speakers at this
program. The program includ-
ed Palestinian dances and songs.
A class in American Jewish
hisl:Ory is being organized in the
evening school. Anyone desir-
ing to enroll should see Simha
Rubinstein, educational director.
On account of Purim, the
classes next week only will meet
on Wednesday instead of Tues-
day.
Plan Purim Program
Purim programs will be staged
at the Sunday School, Feb. 25.
A committee from the Sisterhood
will distribute Shalach Monos to
the pupils of both the week day
and Sunday classes.
Dr. Brumbaugh to Speak
Dr. T. T. Brumbaugh, execu-
tive secretary of the Detroit
Council of Churches will speak
at the Oneg Shabbat at 8:30 this
Friday, in the Social Hall. This
will be in the nature of a Broth-
erhood program. Cantor J. H.
Sonenklar will lead the congre-
gational singing and refresh-
ments will be served by the Sis-
terhood.

NW Congregation
Purchases Site
For Synagogue

Alexander Moss, president of
the Northwest Hebrew Congrega-
tion. announced that the deal for
the purchase of lots on which
the new synagogue is to be erect-
ed, has been completed and the
building will be commenced as
soon as conditions warrant.
The site, 198 by 120 feet, is
located on the south side of
Curtis, two blocks west of Liver-
nois.
The Sunday School which is
meeting at the Bagley School in
cooperation with the United
Hebrew Schools, is under the
supervision of Miss Nellie Selig-
son.
Nearly 100 children have al-
ready registered in the Sunday
School, Benjamin Brodman, vice-
president and a member of the
educational committee, reported.
Residents of the nortwset sec-
tion are urged to send their
children to this school and to at-
tend the congregation's Sabbath
morning services at the Bagley
School.

and author, officited at the Purim
celebration of the Northwest
Hebrew Congregation at • the
Bagley' School last Sunday even-
ing. Cantor J. H. Sonenklar, Mrs.
Sadie Braver Cooper, violinist,
Miss Lillian Robbins, piano ac-
companist, Joseph Sylvan, a
magician, were featured.

Palestine Suspends
Purim Celebration

JERUSALEM, (Palcor)—Pub-
lie celebration of Purim, marked
in past years by gala functions
and public dancing, will not be
held this year, according to a
decision of the Vaad Leumi, Jew-
ish Palestine's National Council.
This is the third year that Purim
celebrations are not being held,
in 'deference to the travail of
European Jewry.

The sisterhood of the Detroit
Hebrew Parochial School an-
nounces a Purim party to be
held Sunday, at 1 p. m., at the
school auditoriuM, Linwood and
Elmhurst.
Rabbi G. Frankel will direct
the program and N. Palmer will
entertain the assembly with vo-
cal selections. The children will
perform in Purim plays.

"To Be or Not to Be a Jew—
Purim Reflections on 5705," this
Friday at 8:30 p. m.
Cantor Gartenhaus will of-
ficiate with a full choir under the
direction of David Shkolnick.
Marjorie Solomon will revue
the Sedrah of the week.
Following the program a so-
cial hour will be held in the

A brief service will include the
reading of the Megillah, a Purim
play, songs and masquerade ball.

Purim will be celebrated in
all branches of the United He-
brew Schools. Parties will be
arranged in the classrooms and
exchange of gifts by the child-
ren will be one of the features.
The Megillah will be read at the
Purim Assembly, which will be
held in each school on Monday,
Feb. 26.
Until Purim, much time is
being devoted in each class to
the study of the Megillah and
all customs and ceremonies con-

Purim Celebrations

The Junior High department
of the Religious School of
Temple Beth El will present "A
Merry Purim" this Saturday
morning at 10:15. The Inter-
mediate Drama Group will per-
form "The Purim Wizard of
Oz" on Sunday morning, Feb.
25, at 10:15.
The Primary department will
have a Purim masquerade party,
movies, songs and refreshments.
