The public meeting arranged by the Zionist Council of
Detroit for Monday evening, Feb. 26, at the Rose • Sittig
Cohen Building, Lawton and Wavely, to hear Meyer W.
Weisgal's report on conditions in Palestine, will be utilized
to honor Rep. Jack Ellstein, who sponsored the Palestine
Resolution which was adopted unanimously by both Houses

The Purim -festival sponsored
by the Joint Yiddish Culture
Committee of the - Jewish Com-
munity Council and Community
Center, next Tuesday evening,
will consist of a program based
on themes appropriate of the
holiday. The program will take
place in the auditorium of the
Center at 9 p. m.
Joseph Strugatch, monologuist
and interpreter of Yiddish poetry,
will participate in the program.
Formerly associated with the
"Kleinkunst Azazel", a' variety
theater group in Warsaw, he has
been living in this country for
several years, and has toured on
behalf of a number of organiza-
tions devoted to Yiddish culture.
He will offer a selection of
humorous interpretations, includ-
ing the comic poems on Purim
characters by the Yiddish poet
Manger.
Abraham Schachter, a member
of the United Hebrew Schools
faculty, will read selections from.
the Purim Megilla.
Aaron Rosenberg will preside.
Halevy Singing Society, under-
the direction of Dan Frohman,
will appear in a short concert.
Mrs. Rebecca Frohrnan and Miss
Dianne Zemel are the accom-
panists.

ed by Meyer Eisenberg, assisted
by Rena LaMed and Dorothy

Latest Developments
Mr. Weisgal will give a first
hand account of latest develop-
ments in Palestine. He recently
has returned `f r o m Palestine
where he conferred with Dr.
Chaim Weizmann, whom he rep-
resents in this country as his per-
sonal representative, and with
other Jewish leaders in Palestine.
Former editor of the New
Palestine, editor of the volume
published in honor of Dr. Weiz-
mann's seventieth birthday, Mr.
Weisgal_ today holds one of the
most responsible positions in
Zionist ranks in this country as
the head of the Jewish Agency
office in New York.
Rally Open to Public
The Zionist Council, spokesman
for all Zionist groups in the city,
has issued a call to all Detroit
Zionists to participate in Mon-
day's rally which will be open
to the public. J There will be no
solicitations.

NEW YORK (JTA)—American
gifts for the establishment in
Palestine of the Weizmann In-
stitute of Science have reached
the $500,000 mark, according to
an announcement by Edmund I.
Kaufman, president of the
American Committee which form-
ulated the plans for the establish-
ment of the Institute and adopted
a $2,000,000 goal for the realiza-
tion of its program.

JNF Ladies Auxiliary
To Complete Plans
For Fund Campaign

Mrs. Philip J. Cutler, president
of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the
Jewish National Fund, announc-
ed this week that definite plans
for the annual fund-raising event
will be made at a board meet-
ing on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the
home of Mrs. I. Zeff, 1864 Oak-
man.
This meeting also will be a
workers' rally and will be in the
form of a luncheonette.
Mrs. William K/afer, chairman,
and Mrs. Samuel N. Heyman,
co-chairman of the donor event,
will preside at this rally.
Mrs. Cutler has renewed her
appeal to the Jewish women to
participate in the land-redemp-
tion program of the JNF and to
help secure the funds necessary
for the completion of the special
settlement being sponsored by
the Jewish women of Detroit to
be known as Nachlath Ladies
Auxiliary of Jewish National
Fund in Palestine.
Mrs. J. S. Sperka is program
chairman of the annual event
which will culminate with a large
rally in the Masonic Temple on
March 21.

Jewish Community Center, has
appointed Mrs. Samuel R. Glo-
gower as chairman, and Mrs. Ben-

Kahn, Jacob Weissman as mem-
bers of a committee to conduct
‘a self-study of the Center. This
committe already has held four
meetings to discuss the objectives
of the Center as well as the activ-
ities it at present conducts.
Sub-Committee Picked
A sub-committee already has
interviewed various individuals
in the community, seeking in-
formed opinions on the Jewish
Center. The staff is preparing
for Mrs. Glogower's committee
plans for a model Center pro-
gram in Detroit. ,
Rudolph Zuieback, president of
the United Hebrew Schools, has
announced the appointment of a
committee already has held four
Crohn, which has begun to an-
alyze the objectives and achieve-
ments of the United Hebrew
Schools in the community.
Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter
has informed the Citizens' Corn=
mittee, that Yeshivath Beth Yehu-
dah already has devoted a meet-
ing of its board to discussing the
program of the Yeshivah and its
relationship to other educational
institutions in the community.
Bnai Brith Council Active
The Bnai Brith Youth Advisory
Council also has devoted a full
meeting towards reviewing its
plans in the light of the commu-

Young Folks' Purim
Musicale at Center

The music department of the
Jewish Community Center an-
nounces that a Purim musicale
for young people will be held
Sunday, March 4, 2:30 p. m., in
the Center Auditorium.
Kurt Saffir, 14-year-old Center
pupil, Will make his debut as
conductor in leading the Center
String Orchestra. Rosalie Gross,
soprano, and Arthur Benavie, 14-
year-old violinist, will be heard
in solo selections. They will be
accompanied at the piano . by
Betty Kowalsky.
The second half of the musicale
will be devoted to a Purim play
written by julius Chajes, music
director of the Center. It will be
performed by the Center'S Jun-
ior Group under the direction of
Miss Edith Muskin and Miss
Fannie Aronson. •
