Mrs. Moritz Kahn of 1611 Lincolnshire Drive, Palmer Woods,
'Will be at home to • relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p. in. on
Sunday, Feb. 18, in honor of her daughter, Betty. Valerie, - whose
engagement recently was announced to Samuel Katzin of Chicago.
Mrs. Robert Tucker and son, Larry, of Chicago and Mrs. Ozzie
Simmons of Texas are visiting their parents, Cantor and Mrs.
Jacob Sonenklar of Calvert Ave.
Mr.. and Mrs. Samuel A. Sklar of Northlawn Ave. were hosts
to their family and friends last Sunday evening in honor of their
25th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Nathan Pasman has left for Miami Beach, Fla., to visit her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Morey Cove. She also will
visit her grandson, Seymour Cove, who is with the Navy at Bain-
bridge, Md.
Cpl. Jay Goldberger was home on a delay en route and spent
two weeks with this wife, Marion, at 2075 W. Philadelphia. He was
graduated from aerial gunnery school at Loredo, Tex.
Dr. and Mrs. Max Abramson and daughter are now residing
in their new home on Santa Barbara Drive.
Second Lt. Morris Miller is spending a leave here with his
family and friends after his graduation from Aberdeen OCS, where
he received his commission. Lt. Miller is a graduate of Central
High and received his B. A. Degree from Wayne University. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Miller of Elmhurst Ave., and the
husband of- Estelle Katz Miller of Griggs Ave.
Donna Carlson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Carlson, has
left for Miami Beach, Fla., for a brief stay, before entering the
University of Miami, at Coral Gables.
, Mr. and Mrs. Melville Welt, of Balmoral Drive, have returned
from Lennox, Mass., and New York City where they visited with
their children, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon
Pope.
Mr. and Mrs. John A. • Heavenrich of Longfellow avenue, are
spending a few weeks in Tucson, Ariz.
Paul May, just graduated from Lawrencevi,Jle School. Princeton,
N. J., is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
May, of Wildemere avenue.
Mrs. Frank V. Martin, of Moss avenue, and Mrs. Leon Netzorg,
of the Belcrest Hotel, have left for New Orleans where they will
attend the wedding_ of Mrs. Netzorg's daughter, Ruth.
- Mrs. A. M. Ermann, of Merton road, is spending a few weeks in
Cincinnati as guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Ulman.
Mrs. Louis A. Welt, of the Belcrest Hotel, has invited a group
of frierlds to a luncheon at the Women's City Club this Friday to
celebrate her birthday.

of English at the University of
Wisconsin and a distinguished
Catholic laywoman, will address
the special observance of. Na-
tional Brotherhood Week of the
Women's Committee of the De-
troit Round Table, at 1:30 p. m.
Friday, Feb. 23, _in the Lecture
Hall of the Institute of Art.
Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, presi-
dent of the Temple Israel Sister-
hood, is chairman of the com-
mittee on arrangements. Mrs.
Maurice Klein, Jewish co-chair-
man of The Round Table Wom-
en's Committee, will introduce
Dr. White.
A graduate of Radcliffe Col-
lege, Dr. White received her Ph.
D. from the University of Wis-
consin and received honorary
degrees from Mt. St. Scholastica,
Mt. St. Mary and Rockford Col-
leges.
A musical program will 'fea-
ture the Feb. 23 meeting. There
will be a tea and refreshments
in the guest's honor. The pub-

Center Film Program
Honors Brotherhood Week
"Army Chaplain," a March of
Time film release, will be shown
in the Adult " Lounge of the
Jewish Community Center,

Dr. Hershman Urges
Black Book Support

Dr. A. M. Hershman, rabbi of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek, this
week issued a statement endors-
ing the drive to help finance the
Black Book which will contain
the record of Nazi atrocities
against the Jews.
Rabbi Hershman cited as his
reasons for supporting- the Black
Book the following: -
1. It will keep the history of
the Jews up-to-date and will re-
tain the record of Jewish hero-
ism in this war.
2. It will have a sobering ef-
fect on Jews and will shake them
out of complacency.
3. It will serve as an indict-
ment of those who condoned the
massacres and persecutions of
Jews.

the Detroit Zionist Youth Coth-
mission, announces the appoint-
ment of Mrs. Esther Mossman as
director of the Commission.
Mrs. Mossman, formerly mem-
bership and publicity director of
the Jewish Community Center,
is the wife of Chaplain Sydney
K. .Mossman with the U. S. Army
in England.
The Commission has opened
general Zionist youth headquar-
ters 'at 9144 Linwood. The office
will be open every week-day aft-
ernoon and Sunday afternoon,
also Monday, Tuesday, and Wed-
nesday evenings from 7 to 10.
Serving on the Commission are

man, Lawrence Crohn, Mrs. Max

The Commission, sponsored and
financed by Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah and the Zionist Organ-
ization of Detroit, has as its pur
pose the coordination of ZOA and
Hadassah on behalf of youth
work, to stimulate and guide
development of the four general
Zionist youth bodies, Young
Judaea, Junior Hadassah, Avuk-
ah, Junior Zionists, and to en-
courage their growth through the
organization of unaffiliated Jew-
ish youth; to bring an apprecia-
tion of Zionism and a knowledge
of and love for Palestine to the
unaffiliated youth who are or-
ganized through Hebrew Schools,
Sunday Schools, independent
clubs, for whom the dynamic pro-
gram which Zionism offers,
should prove a stimulus and con-
tribution.
A leaders' meeting is sched-
uled for next Tuesday, at 8 p.
m., at the office. All young peo-
ple interested in leading Young
Judaea groups are welcome and
are asked to call Mrs: Mossman

Field to membership on the na-
tional board of the Zionist Youth

have its luncheon and show at
the Book Cadillac Hotel on
Wednesday, to conclude the an-
nual pledge fund drive.
Mrs. James V. Browne is gen-
eral chairman and Mrs. Sydney
Kalt -is co-chairman. Mrs. Charles
Goldman and Mrs. Ben Tobin
are in charge of the yearbook.
Mrs. Lewis Manning and Mrs.
Louis Fried are ticket chairmen.

Eleanor Lipkin, 14, who last
year was soloist with the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra after win-
ning an all-city high school com-
petition, is being presented by
her teacher, Edward Bredshall, in
a piano recital in the small audi-
torium of the Art Institute at
• 8:30 p. m. Wednesday, Feb. 21.
Miss Lipkin began her studies
at 4 and at 6 gave her first public
recital. She has made a number
of appearances, as soloist with
the Michigan Symphony Orches-
tra when she was 10 and again at
12 and in the summer of 1943
broadcast with the National High
School Orchestra from Interloch-
en, Mich.
She was three times winner of
the Michigan Federation of Music
Clubs' piano contests and was
guest of honor at their national
convention in April, 1940, where
she received a special award.
On Feb. 7, Miss Lipkin partici-
pated in the third subscription
chamber music concert of the De-
troit Music Guild at the Art In-
stitute.
