Plans for Red Cross Drive

CoMmunity Mobilizing Forces During Coming Two Weeks
To Assist National Campaign to Raise 200 Million;
. Detroit's Quota to Be Announced ShortIV

Jewish organizations and individuals are mobilizing for
the 1945 Red Cross drive to be conducted during the month
of March..
Committee selections and appointments will be made
by Jewish groups during the coming two weeks, it was in-
dicated at several organizational meetings.

Herbert B. Trix has been ap-
pointed to head . the Detroit
Chapter's 1945 American Red
Cross War Fund Drive.

Mr. Trix, president of Ameri-
can. Injector and the W. M.
Chace companies ; acted as chair-
man of the 1944 Red Cross earn-
paign here. The Detroit .quota
was over-subscribed, and Detroit
was one of the first large Cities
in the nation to go over the top.
Mr. Trix, who served overseas
in the army during the last war,
ending up as ‘a major, served as
mayor of Grosse Pointe and
member of the Grosse „Pointe
Council.
Campaign headquarters have
been opened up on the third
floor of the. Griswold Bldg., 1214
Griswold St. John M. Sullivan
will again act as 'business man-
ager of the campaign.
U. S. Goal 200 Million
The national goal, which was
announced as $180,000,000 last
fall; has43een raised to $200,000,-
000 because of the recent' reverses
in Europe and the estimation
that the European war will last
longer Than previously antici-
pated.
Mr. Trix announced that the
Detroit Chapter quota has not as
yet been definitely set but it is
already known that it will be
larger than last year.

Traverse City Group
Donates Sefer Torah

In response to a Synagogue
Council of America appeal, Con-
gregation Beth El of Traverse
City has donated a Sefer Torah
and a Megillah for use by a lib-
erated synagogue in Europe. The
Sefer Torah was Secured by
Rabbi Selig S. Auerbach, Circuit
Rabbi for Northern Michigan.
Max Rabinovitch is president of
the congregation.

With Social Hygiene Day
The Jewish Center film pro-
gram on Feb. 7, at 8:45 -p., rn. in
the Adult Lounge, will be devoted
to the observance of Social Hy-
giene Day. Edward A. Benjamin
of the Wayne County Department
of ,Health will present two films
dealing with health and social
hygiene—"To the People of the
United States," a 2Q minute film
starring Jean Hersholt, and
"Know for Sure." Mr. Benjamin
will lead a discussion and answer
questions. All are welcome.

At Center Saturday
On Feb. 3, at 8:30 p. m., the
Jewish Center will - present a
dance in Butzel Hall. The theme
for the evening will be "Pin-Up
Nite," and.ra pin-up girl and boy
