To Sing at Open Meeting
at Bagley School
In addition to the address to
be delivered by Fred. M. Butzel,
whose topic will be "The Rela-
tion of the Synagogue to the
Community," the open meeting of
the Northwest Hebrew Con-
gregation and Center, to be held
on Monday evening, Jan. 29, at
the Bagley SchOol, Curtis and
Roselawn, will be featured by
the appearance of 14 singers of
the Junior Hadassah Choral
Group.

An open meeting of the con-
gregation will follow the pro-
gram and refreshments will be
served by the Sisterhood.
The Rev. Heshel Stollman of
Yeshivath Beth Joseph of Brook-
lyn, N. Y., addressed the Sab-
bath services at the Bagley
School last Saturday. The con-
gregation was • served a kiddush
after services at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. David J. Miller in hon-
. or of their wedding anniversary.
'Alexander Moss, president, an-
nounces, that arrangements are
being completed for the forma-
tion of a Sunday and Hebrew
school to provide an adequate
Jewish education for children in
the neighborhood.
The United Hebrew Schools
are making arrangements to
work with the Congregation in
connection with the Sunday and
Hebrew Schools, which will be
held 'daily and Sunday at the
Bagley School, . commencing on
or about Feb. 4. Plans for the
Sunday and Hebrew Schools are
being completed by David J.
Miller and Max H. Goldsmith.
Mr. Moss has issued an invita-
tion to the community to attend
the Jan: 29 open meeting and the
Sabbath-morning services.
`Beyond Bill of Rights,'
Rabbi Nathan's Subject
"Beyond the Bill of Rights" is,
the subject of an address to be
delivered by Rabbi Jacob J. Na-
than of Congregation Bnai Moshe,
at the late Friday evening serv-
ices on Jan. 26. •
Prayers begin at 8:15 and are
conducted by Cantor David Katz-
man. A social hour follows, with
refreshments served by the Sis-
terhood. The public is invited.

To Conclude Survey
In West Coast Tour
A nationwide survey of the
religious needs of American Jew-
ish communities which Rabbi
Maurice N. Eisendrath began
shortly after his .election as di-
rector of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations 16 months
ago will be concluded with a tour
of principal West Coast and South
West Jewish communities during
the next two months.
Walter Lippmann's book, "U.
S. War Aims," as well as his
syndicated columns on the shape
of the peace to come, will be the
subject of a sermon to be deliv-
ered by Rabbi' Leon Fram . at the
Sabbath Eve services of Temple
Israel Friday night, Jan. 26, in
the • Lecture Hall of the Detroit
Institute of Arts. The public is
invited.
The services will be followed
by a social hour in the' Roman-
esque Hall of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts.
This Friday night Temple Is-
rael observes Parents' Night.

Education of An American Jew:"'
Take Registrations
at Parochial School
Registration in the Detroit He-
brew Parochial School is now
open for all grades, kindergarten
to 12th. The next term will be-
gin Feb. 5. The children receive
a complete English and Hebrew
education.
Classes for all ages begin at
9:30 a. m. The kindergarten is
dismissed at 1. p. m.; 1st to 6th
grades at 4:30 p. m.; 7th to 12th
at 7.

Sabbath Story Hour
A new Young Israel. Sabbath
story hour for Children 6 to 10.

program, which lasts from 2:30

Heads Conciliators
NEW YORK—AS a meeting
held at the Federation Bldg., the
Jewish Conch i ati on Board re-
elected Dr. Israel Goldstein presi-
dent.
Dr. Goldstein reported that the
JewiSh Concilation Board now in
its 17th year, has conciliated
more than 4,000 disputes without
cost *to the litigants.

ister of the Central Woodward
Christian Church and piesident

Dr. B. Benedict Glazer and Dr.
Leo M. Franklin will conduct
the services.
The musical program will be
rendered by the Temple Quartet
with Julius Chajes directing and
Jason Tickton at the organ.
Jascha Schwartzman, cellist of
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra,
will be the guest soloist.

UAHC to Honor 70th
Anniversary of HUC
CINCINNATI.-7-The.. Union of
American Hebrew Congregations
will convene in Cincinnati - next
fall to co-operate in the celebra-
tion of the 70th anniversary of
the founding of the Hebrew
Union College.
Both the UAHC and HUC were'
founded by the late Rabbi Isaac
M. Wise, who also founded - the
Central Conference of American
Rabbis and American Israelite. •
Dr. Julian Mo'rgenstern is HUC
president and Dr. Hiram B. Weiss
is chairman of the board of gov-
ernors. Adolph Rosenberg is
president of the UAHC. All are
Cincinnati ans.

In an address on "Our Schools
in the Emergency," delivered be-
fore the newly-for,;rned Parent-
Teachers Association of Yeshi-
vath Beth Yehudah last Tuesday,
at the Yeshivah, Dexter and
Cortland, Dr. Warren E. Bow,
superintendent of Detroit schools,
expressed. satisfaction with the
conduct of the Yeshivah Day
School.
Dr. Bow said that he found
the Yeshivah to be following the
lines and principles of all public
schools and assured parents of
his readiness to cooperate in the
advancement of the school. He
stated that he appreciated that
there are parents who wished to
give their -children an education
based on the faiths of their
fathers together with a general
secular education and empha-
sized that this choice of freedom
of education we call "America,"
and that this is the_ freedom we
fight for.
Referring to the teachers in
the Day. School, Dr. BoW said
that through their contacts with
the Board of Education. and
Wayne University he is informed
fully on their work and. that he
found them responsible for the
"friendly discipline", that pre-
vails in the schotl.
Chaim Liberman, of New
York, member of the editorial
staff of the Jewish Daily For-
ward, addressed a conference of
organizational leaders • at the
Yeshivah. last Sunday. His train
arrived too late for him to ad-
dress the public meeting, and he
conferred with leaders after the
large gathering. He gave a vivid
account of new educational
trends in Jewish life.

the social hall of Shaarey Zedek.

registered at the Yeshivah. Dr.
Mandelbaurn, principal, is in
charge. *Bus transportation is
provided and hot lunches are

The religious conclave arrang-
ed by the Merkaz in co-operation
with the Vaad Horabonim will be
held this Sunday, starting at 5:30
p. m., at Congregation Bnai
Moshe, Dexter and Lawrence.
Representatives of synagogues
and organizations will partici-
pate in this event which will be
utilized to submit reports on the
accomplishnients of the rab-
binate. ._
The event will commence with
services in memory of service-
men. Cantor Katzman will lead
the services and local rabbis will
chant Psalms.
The dinner, at 6:30 p. m. will
