Rabbi Fram, in his address,
paid tribute to the labor Zionist
movement as the powerful force
for Palestine's redemption. He
deplored the rift in Zionist ranks
but expressed confidence that
Palestine's cause will triumph
despite all obstacles.
In his opening statement, Mr.
Schaver stated:
"With the final victory of the
United Nations over Hitler in
sight, all of our efforts in behalf .
of a reconstructed Jewish people
on its on soil, all of our work
toward the building of the
Jewish Commonwealth in a free
world at peace must be redoub-
led. Not only must our achieve-
ments be fully maintained—we
must greatly expand them so that
we may all see the final realiza-
tion of our hopes and aspira-
tions.
Histadruth Met Challenge
"The past year was one of ap-
palling suffering for the Jewish
people—a year of life-or-death
challenge such as no people has
ever before faced. The Histadruth
met that challenge with the cry:
a greater Jewish Palestine for
more Jews! It sent its men and
women into Europe to snatch
Jews from the jaws of death and
to lead them to a free and secure
home in Palestine.
"It sent its • men and women
into the . newly established out•.
posts in the far north and far
south of Palestine to expand the
borders of Jewish Palestine and
to • prepare homes and work for
the soldiers who have come and
who are to come home, for the
refugees—for all newcomers to
the land. •
"The Histadruth also increased
the industrial potentiality of • the
country. It now operates 244 -,co
operative work shops of which
177 are located , in agricultural
colonies.. These combined agri- .
culturat-industrial units are prov-
ing to be most sound economical-
ly and. • Most prothising for the
future development of the land.

ing . questions of the time in

Spokesmen for the movement of the ,Christian Friends
of a Jewish Palestine, speaking at two functions here last.
Monday, made the emphatic declarations that there can be
no peace with honor, , dignity and justice, after' this war,
unless the pledge for the reconstitution of the Jewish Com-
monwealth in Palestine is strictly adhered to.

The Rev. Wendell Phillips,
rector of Christ's Church, Rye,
N. Y., former professor of Eng-
lish at the American University
at Cairo, Egypt, and Mrs.- How-
ell Van Auken Were the prin-
'cipal speakers at a luncheon, at
the Fort Shelby, arranged by the
Michigan Chapter of American
Palestine Committee, and at the
Zionist rally in honor of the 70th
birthday of Dr. Chaim Weizmarin
at the Shaarey Zedek, under the
auspices of the Zionist Council
of Detroit.

Dr. David D. Henry, executive
vice-president of Wayne Univer-
sity, presided at' the luncheon
meeting which was attended by

outstanding clergymen, commun-
ity leaders, labor offibials and
club women. .•
Rabbi Leon Frani was the
third speaker at the evening
meeting Which• was attended by
an overflow audience.

lips dissected Arab • claims in
opposing the Zionist movement
and posed the fallacios • argu-
ments of Arab leaders. He charg-
ed that the Arabs had failed- to
support' the cause of the United
Nations and declared that the
Jews of Palestine made Most. im-
. portant contributions towards
winning the war..at a great sac-
rifice.
Arab Exclusiveness
Rev. Phillips charged that Arab
exclusiveness, t h e desire of
wealthy Arabs to keep the mass-
es of their people subjected to
poverty so that . they may re-:
main in economic power and
.their desire to gain political con-
trol in the Near East are re-.
sponsible for Arab opposition to
Zionism_ .
Mrs. Van Auken reported on
the important efforts inaugura-
ted by Christian Zionists, at the
conference held recently in Chi,
cago, to - assist the movement for
Palestine's redemption.. In her
