ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
• Mr. and Mrs. David M. Feerer of the Belcrest Hotel are
planning to leave Sunday for a week in New York City.
Mrs. Frederick K. Friedman of LaSalle Blvd. returned Wed-
nesday from Memphis, Tenn., where she visited with relatives
and friends.
Samuel Lieberman of Birchcrest Dr. is spending a few weeks
In California where he went to visit his son, Pvt. Edwin Lieber-
man who is stationed at Camp Pendelton, Ore. He also will visit
his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David G. Lieberman
in Los Angeles before returning home.
Edward Blumberg, a student at the University of Michigan,
spent a few days in New York City and visited his brother, Capt.
Herbert Blumberg who is stationed at Fort Monmouth, N. J.

Mrs. Harry Becker • of Warrington Dr. is planning to leave
Sunday for Miami Beach where she will spend the winter months.
Lt. Howard Sherman has returned to his post at Solomons,
Md., following a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Sherman of Calvert Ave. and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hartman of
Chicago Blvd. Mrs. Sherman (Shirley Hartman) who accompanied
her husband has remained for a longer stay.
Dr. and Mrs. Albert Krohn of Cambridge Rd. have returned
from a 10-day stay in New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. William Mazer of Birchcrest Dr. spent the last
week-:end in New York City.
Mrs. Lawrence W. Crohn of Wildemere Ave. has returned
from Pittsburgh where she visited members of her family.
Seaman 1/c Robert Kuttnauer has returned to Great Lakes
following a short leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. DeRoy
Kuttnauer of Birchcrest Dr.
Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer Jacobs of Shaker Heights, 0. spent the
last week-end as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard L. Oppen-
heim of Whitmore Rd.
Lt. Seymour L. Grossfeld who is stationed at Fort Riley with
the U. S. Cavalry, is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Max Grossfeld of Farrand Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Kahn of Chicago Blvd. are planning to
leave this Sunday to spend a week in New York City.
Lt. Arthur Sandberg, who recently was graduated from OCS
at Fort Benning, Ga., is spending a 21-day leave with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sandberg of Fullerton Ave.
Pfc. Sam Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Robinson, was
on a two weeks' visit with his parents before returning to his post
at Tinker Air Field, Oklahoma.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rosenberg and son, Harvey, of Calvert Ave.
have left for a month's visit in Los Angeles. En route they will
visit with friends in Tucson, Ariz.
Ensign and Mrs. Sid Brawer spent their holiday furlough with
their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Brawer of 3290 Hazelwood Ave.
Miss Elaine Rae Glass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Glass of
18240 San Juan. Dr., was home from the University of Illinois for
her holiday vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Cohen of 3344 Elmhurst, will celebrate
their 20th wedding anniversary on ,Jan. 11.
Lt. (j.g.) Charles Altschuler, recently returned from overseas
duty, spent a few days with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Louis Altschuler
of Glendale Ave.
Miss Ethel Rosenthal and her niece, Miss Joan Goldstein of
Blaine Ave. have returned from a visit to New York City and
Washington.
Lt. S. J. Fauman who recently has completed some special
training at Harvard University, spent a five-day leave with his
parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Fauman of Boston Blvd.

Center will meet next Thursday,
at 8:30 p. m.
Mrs. Sadie Saferstein, chair-
man of the group, announces
that the members have set a war
bond goal to purchase a small
emergency ambulance plane.
On New Year's Day the club
served 1,200 soldiers at the
Downtown USO. They also bring
small gifts to each meeting to
send to servicemen as part of
their program of assisting the
Serve-A-Camp project.
All wives of • servicemen are
invited to join this group by
calling Mrs. Esther Mossman at
the Center, MA. 8400.

Mrs. Mattie Rotenberg Toron-
to educator, will speak on "The
Power of Ignorance". Miss Ros-
alie Gross, vocalist, and Miss
Katherine Ziff, pianist, will ren-
der selections. Mrs. Nathan Spe-
vakow will preside. Social ar-
rangements are in charge of Mrs.
Louis Seiton, Mrs. Maxfield
Mathis and Mrs. Morris Krause.
The guest speaker, who is on
the staff of the University of Tor-
onto Physics Department, is a
member of a family distinguished
for Jewish religious and cultural
achievements. Two of her broth-
ers, Capt. Eliezer Levi and Major
S. Gerson Levi, are army chap-
lains, Major Levi having been
the first Jewish chaplain to en-
list in the Canadian army in this
war.
As her own educational project,
Mrs. Rotenberg founded the Hill-
crest Progressive School, a Jew-
ish day school in Toronto, which
she directed for 12 years. For
many years actively identified
with Hadassah, she is at present
editor of the Toronto Hadassah
Reporter, and is a featured speak-
er of the Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation.
The next brunch book review
takes place Tuesday, Jan. 16,
with Mrs. Esther Etkin Moss-
man discussing "Anna and the
King of Siam."
The Red Cross Division re-
sumes work next Tuesday, under
the continued leadership of Mrs.
Sidney Frank.
JEWISH WOMEN'S EURO-
PEAN WELFARE ORGANIZA-
TION will • meet at 1 p. m. Mon-
day at the Bnai Moshe. Reports
will be submitted by the in-
vestigating committee regarding
relief cases. New officers will be
nominated.

WOMEN'S LEAGUE FOR
SABBATH OBSERVANCE is
sponsoring an afternoon for boys
10 to 14 at the Bnai David Syna-
gogue, Elmhurst and 14th Sts.,
on Saturdays at 3 p. m. The
boys study the week's Sedra, sing
songs, stay for Mincha and are
served refreshments. The
Women's Sabbath League's an-
nual luncheon will be held Jan.
17 at the Bnai Moshe. Talks
regarding the current member-
ship drive are given Saturday
