W/O Joe Kivo who has been home on furlough visiting with his

Miss Madeleine Brodie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Brodie
of Chicago Blvd., spent last week-end in Evanston, Ill., as the
guest of Miss Betty Greene, and the remainder of the holiday
vacation with her parents. She will return to Northwestern Uni-
versity on Jan. 2.
Miss Lois Rose is spending her vacation from Michigan State
College visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs. B. Rose of W. Boston
Blvd.
Miss Rita Kallman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David Kallman
of Canterbury Drive, is spending the holiday period as the guest
of Miss Margy Lou Office in Dayton, 0.
Mrs. Joshua Karbal of Webb Ave. was on a two weeks' visit
in Toronto as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rotenberg.
Miss Elaine Jasen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jasen of
.18072 Woodingham, a student at Highland Manor School, W. Long
Branch N. J., is spending the holiday vacation at home.
Mrs. Dan Siegel (Rose Stone) of 2960 Collingwood Ave. has
returned home after a month's visit in Temple, Tex. Pvt. Siegel is
stationed at Camp Hood, Tex.
Mr and Mrs. Maurice Garelik and family, formerly of 2664
Calvert Ave. are now residing at 18503 Fairfield Ave.
Mrs. Andrew Blau, formerly of 2664 Calvert Ave., is now resid-
ing at 18503 Fairfield Ave. Mrs. Blau and small son. Robert Philip,
have returned from an extended visit in Arizona with A/S Andrew
Blau. They were accompanied by A/S Andrew Blau who was on
furlough until Dec. 26. A/S and Mrs. Andrew Blau spent a few days
in Cleveland visiting their mother, Mrs. Ruth Blau, formerly of
Detroi t.
Miss Lenore Diamond, a student at New York University, is
spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moe Diamond
of Whitmore road.
Miss Miriam Savage, a student at Central Y.W.C.A. College,
Chicago, Ill., is spending the concluding days of her vacation with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Savage.
Flight Officer Kenneth Rosenfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max
Cohen, has completed his training and is home on leave. Relatives
and friends are invited to attend the open house to be held starting
at 8 p. rn. Saturday at 3205. Tyler, Apt. 307.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Carpenter had as their house guests for
two weeks their daughter and son-in-law, Pvt. and Mrs. John Nemon.
Pvt. Nemon returned to his post in Baltimore and Mrs. Nemon will
remain here for two more weeks before joining her husband.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Soss and their daughters, Barbara and
Marjory of Hamilton Dr., are spending 10 days in New York City
visiting with•Mrs. Soss' family.
Mrs. Herman Finsterwald left on Tuesday for Memphis, Tenn.,
to spend the winter with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Dreifus.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Winkelman of Fairfield Ave. and Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Winkelman of Port Huron, have left ,for Chicago where
they will spend the week-end and from where they will go on to
Gladstone, Mich., where they will spend 10 days with Mrs. Leon
Winkelman's mother, Mrs. Henry Rosenblum.
Miss Vivian Keidan is spending the week in New York City as
_ the guest of her cousins, Dr. and Mrs. David Horowitz (Fayga
Keidan).
Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Mann of Sturtevant Ave. and their
son, Richard, are visiting Mrs. Mann's family in McKeesport, Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Levitt of the Indian Village Manor left
last week for Gulfport, Miss., where they will visit their children,
Pvt. and Mrs. Martin Oppenheim.
The Misses Jeannette and Ruth Caplan of Whitmore Rd. are
. spending a week in St. Louis, Mo., visiting their brother-in-law and

Mrs. Harry L. Jones Outlines
Activities Arranged for
Adults and Children
A program of activities for the
12th Street Council Center is
announced by Mrs. Harry L.
Jones, chairman of the program
committee, who reports that
"great interest has been shown
the children and adults of the
12th St. district in the new Unit
of the Jewish Community Cen-
ter. We are attempting to serve_
our friends by offering a pro-
gram of special activities for a
variety of interests."
The schedule as announced by
Mrs. Jones includes the forma-
tion of Girl Scout troops, sewing
classes nn Wednesday afternoon
under the direction of Mrs.
Copeland, a photography group
under the leadership of Manny
Klein, a writing class led by
Mrs. Ben Schwayder.
Stamp Club Organiied
A Stamp Club is being organ-
ized to meet early in January.
An airplane building club for
boys meets every Tuesday after-
noon.
The new, Center has special
dances every Saturday night for
teen-age folk, to the music of the
Juke box.
Tournaments are being organ-
ized by the children and adults
in such games as chess, checkers,
table tennis and pool. Several of
the better players have offered
to teach the games tc) beginners.
For pre-school children there are
classes on Wednesday morning
and afternoon and on• Friday
afternoon, under the direction of
Mrs. Jones.
Community Service
The Council Center is the com-
munity service sponsored by the
Jewish Community Center and
Detroit Section of National
Council of Jewish Women. It is
directed by Harold Weiss who is
assisted by an operating commit-
tee under the chairmanship of
Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner, with
Mrs. Jack Rothberg as vice-
chairman.
The working staff of the Cen-
ter is recruited and furnished by
the National council of Jewish
Women.

Zedek Sisterhood
The Sisterhood of Shaarey Ze-
dek has arranged a complimen-
tary luncheon for paid-up mem
bers in the social hall of the
synagogue for Monday, Jan. 8.
The Guest speaker will be Mrs.
Mattie Rotenberg of Toronto,
well known for her radio talks
over the Canadian Broadcasting
system. Her subject will be: "The
Power of Ignorance."
Mrs. Rotenberg, who is on the
staff of the Physics Department
of the University of Toronto, re-
ceived her M.A. and Ph.D. from
that university. She founded and
was for 12 years director of
Hillcrest Progressive School, a
Jewish day school in Toronto. ,
Miss Rosalie Gross will render
several musical selections accom-
panied on the piano by Katherine
Ziff.
