Rabbi Versus Doctor
A young, orthodox rabbi who
came to a small community to
assume his first post also had a
Ph.D. degree. He was quite frank
iv. claiming pride in his doctorate
and in preferring to be called
Doctor rather than Rabbi.
One day an elderly woman
came to, the rabbi to consult him '
on a ritual matter. Holding a
dressed chicken in her hand, she
said: "Rabbi, I have come to ask
you a. question." .
!.please don't call me `rabbi.
Call me `doctor'," said- the rabbi
sternly, .,
,Upqn h.earing this remark, the
wernan turned around and start-,
ed to walk out.
"Why are you running away?"
asked the Young rabbi.
"I have nothing to do here,"
replied the woman. "The 'chicken
is dead and no doctor can help
her."

Surviving are her husband;
six children, Herman 'of Wash-*
ington, D. C.; Mrs. Sophie Eck-
stat, Jerry, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller,
Top Sgt. Izzie and Cpl. Arthur,
the latter now stationed in Eng-,
land; her . mother, Mrs. Bessie
Lehrman., a brother, Samuel
Lehrman; three sisters,: Mrs. Wit=
