Mr. Pekarsky joined the staff of the Jewish Welfare Federation in September, 1939, as general administrative assistant. He be- came acting executive director of the Federation when Isidore Sobeloff took a leave of absence in May, 1943, to assist Percival Dodge in forming the New York War Fund. Shortly before Mr. Sobeloff's return to Detroit, last April, Mr. Pekarsky was ele- vated to the managing director- ship of the Council of Social Agencies. Prior to his affiliation with the Jewish Welfare Federation, he served as state director of the Bureau of Old Age Assistance under then Gov. Frank Murphy, and later as state supervisor of the Employment Practices Sec- tion of WPA at Lansing.
