SHE SAY'S it is "just a vaca-
tion," but dancer Yetta Nosan-
chuk left for Hollywood, Calif.,
last week, with a letter addressed
to a well known movie-town
biggie . . . No one at the fare-
well party given by relatives had
the slightest inkling . . . Last
year, in New York, against the
hair-pulling pleas of a frantic
partner, Yetta refused an offer to
dance at the Trocadero because of
home-sickness . . . As Variety
put it, "She just upped and went
home to mom." . . . Mater is with
her, this time!

the aid of a buddy who had step-
ped on a mine and had a leg
blown off . . . Billy ran there
minus a detector and also step-
ped on one . . . This heroic deed
was all that saved the fellow's
life, he was bleeding that badly.

Grant $150,000
To Continue WRB
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
House this week approved an ap-
propriations bill clause granting
$150,000 to the War Refugee
Board for administrative ex-
penses from January to June.
The bill orders that the money
be taken from the President's
emergency fund.
Under the provisions of the
Russell Amendment any govern-
ment agency in existence over a
year must come to Congress for
appropriations. The WRB was set
up last Jan. 22. A few weeks ago
John W. Pehle, executive direc-
tor, appeared before a House ap-
propriations subcommittee to re-
quest the appropriations "for per-
sonnel and communications" in
the event it is necessary to main-
tain the board beyond January.
Pehie told the committee that,
"there are about a million people
left in occupied Europe whose
lives hang by a thread and any-
thing we can do to help those
people we are doing."
