Annual Membership
Tea Here on Dec. 13

ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Evelyn R.. Weisberg, a student of the University of Illinois, and
Marvin L. Weisberg, a student at the Northern Illinois College of
Optometry, were guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Weisberg of Oakman Blvd., over the Thanksgiving week-end.
Mrs. Robert Biegel and daughter, Charlotte, left for Phoenix,
Ariz., where they will spend the winter months.
Mr. and .Mrs. _Harold J. Baskin and daughters, Iryce and
Saundra, of Cherrylawn Ave. were in Chicago for the Thanks-
giving week-end.
Miss Madeleine Brodie of . Northwestern University spent the
Thanksgiving week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
Brodie of Chicago Blvd.
Capt. Max Steiner of the Medical Corps, son of Mr. and Mrs.
aacob Steiner, has returned from 19 months overseas duty. He is
spending his leave with his . wife, Mildred, and son, Mickey, at
their home, 18482 Roselawn Ave. Capt. Steiner has served in both
the African and Italian campaigns. •
Rita R. Papo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Papo of Tuxedo
Ave., was honored at a party at Club Royale on Nov. 23 on the
occasion of her 16th birthday. •
Mrs. Abe Sampson of 3253 Elmhurst, is visiting her son, Pvt.
Gerald Sampson of the Army. Air Force, at Lowry Field, Denver,
Colo.
Flora Julia Smaltz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Smaltz
of Philadelphia Ave., entertained at a luncheon at the Lee Plaza in
honor of her 17th birthday:
- Mr. and Mrs. S. Smaltz of Philadelphia Ave. spent 10 days with
their son, Allen, who is stationed at the New London, Conn., Sub-
marine School.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris E. Bloomberg of Glendale Ave. are on a
10-day visit in Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Butzel were hosts at a family dinner in
their home on Burris Ave. last Sunday evening in celebration of Mr.
Butzel's 70th birthday.
Mrs. Monroe Rosenfield of the Belcrest Hotel is spending a few
weeks in New York'City visiting with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Melville S. Welt of Balmoral Dr. were hosts to a
group of their friends at a dinner in their home last Sunday evening.
Mrs. Walter Laib of Strathcona Dr. has returned from Kansas
City where she was the guest of Mrs. Ralph Folz. Enroute she
spent a fkw days in Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Weisman and their daughter, Nancy, of
Suffolk Dr. returned on Monday from Cincinnati where they spent
five days visiting with Mrs. Weisman's brother-in-law and sister,
Dr. and Mrs, Joseph Hyman.
Mrs. Max Baalin of Longfellow Ave. has. returned from a fort-
night in New York City where- she was a guest at the Charles Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Berendt of Boston Blvd. spent the Thanksgiv-
ing week end with their son and daughter-in-law, Sgt. and Mrs.
James Berendt in Xenia, 0. Sgt. Berendt is stationed at Patter-
son Field, Dayton.
Mrs. S. A. Kahn returned on' Tuesday to her home in Chicago
after a 10-day visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
James L. Stein of Northlawn Ave. The Steins also had as their
guest last week-end Chief Petty Officer Milton -Agatstein who re-
cently returned from 20 months overseas duty.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Goldrich have returned to their home in
Cleveland after a week's visit with their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. William Fleischman of Cambridge Rd.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian G. Wolfner of Burlington Dr. returned on
Monday from a three weeks' visit in New York City and Columbia,
S. C. Their daughter, Nancy, who had joined them for five days in
New York, returned with them.
- Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Ackerman of Chicago have been visiting
their family, Mr. and Mrs. Sol A. Wolff of Lawrence Ave. .and Mr.
and Mrs. Alfred Dreifuss of Birchcrest Dr.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Katz 'of Yankton, S. D., are spending a
few weeks with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Katz of Burlingame Ave.
Jacob Oppenheim returned on Sunday. to his home in Cleveland
after a week's visit with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard- Oppenheim of Whitmore Rd.
Lt. Comm. and Mrs. A. Louis Schwartz and their sons, David,
Jonathan and Steven, spent the Thanksgiving week-end in Detroit
visiting with friends. Lt. Comm. Schwart2 is stationed at the Great
Lakes Naval Training Center.

Miss Sybil Fyliss Kahn, daughter.
of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Kahn
of Bay City, to Norman F. Kahn,
on of Mr. and Mrs. Harry D.
Kahn of Kansas City, Mo., took
place Nov. 23 at the Wenonah
Hotel, Bay City. Rabbi Ganz
officiated.
The bride was attended by her
sister-in-law, Mrs. Sherman
Kahn, as matron of honor. The
bridesmaids were Betty Kahn,
sister of the groom, and Miss
Netta Siegel of Shaker Heights,
0., her former classmate at the
University of Michigan. Sherman
Kahn, brother of the bride, was
best man. Roy Plotkin of Lon-
don, England, Elmer Swack of
Ann Arbor, and Jack -Korn of
Cadillac, Mich., were ushers.
The newlyweds were honored
at a reception for 80 guests after
the ceremony in the Bay Room
of the hotel. Abe Roman was
toastmaster.

Pioneer Women Clubs
Planning Donor Event
At Masonic, Jan. 23

' Pioneer Women's . Clubs are
concentrating efforts on the an-
nual donor event to be held Jan.
23, at the Masonic Temple.
This is the major fund raising
project for the support and main-
tenance of - institutions of the
Working Women's Council in
Palestine whose program has
been extended due to the need
for new homes and institutions
to acommodate refugee women
and children.
"Build a Home and Save a
Child" is the campaign slogan.
Special scholarships for the Vi-
via Lubetkin Vocational Schools
for girls are being solicited.
Donor pledges may be mailed
to the Council office, 9124 Lin-
wood, TY. 7-2880, or to donor
chairmen of respective clubs.

To Convene Here Dec. 10

The semi-annual meeting of
the Michigan Synagogue Confer-

Joshua Borodkin, swimming
