OVERSEAS

The Zionists who fought as a separate unit
under the blue and white flag, within the
structure of the French Forces of the Interior,
were deeply disapnointed when they were for-
bidden to march under the Zionist colors in
the Armistice parade in Paris. They had ap-
pealed against the ban, contending that the
flag under which they had fought for the
liberation of France, deserves its place in a
massing of colors.
Numerous Jewish schools have been opeiaed
in the Western Ukraine and Byelorussia in
accordance with established policy of register-

upon the liberation of any area and of estab-

for Mrs. Archibald Silverman of Providence,

Christian Leaders
Demand Congress
Act on Palestine

CHICAGO—The Midwest Re-
gional Conference on Palestine,
held in Chicago on Nov. 21, urged'
Congress to act speedily and fav-
orably on the pending Palestine
resolutions which call for unres-
tricted Jewish immigration into
Palestine and the re-establishl-
inent- of that Country as a free
and democratic Jewish Common-
wealth, Dr. Howard M. LeSourd,
director of the American Pales-
tine Committee, announced. Mrs.
Howell Van Auken, the Detroit
delegate, was a member of the
resolutions committee.
The Conference also submitted
an 'earnest plea" to President
Roosevelt to "use his good of-
fices in assuring early and de-
finitive action on Palestine in
accordance with the needs of the
Jewish people."
Declaring that the overthrow
of the Nazis will not solve the
Jewish problem, Dr. Reinhold
Niebuhr of the Union Theologic-
al Seminary, New York, asserted
that "what the Jews of Europe
long for is not a place where, they
will be 'tolerated' or 'understood',
but a place where they can be
what they are, preserving their.
own unique identity without
asking 'by your leave' of. any-
one. That one place is Palestine.
Zionism to these people is not a
theory; it represents the wisdom
of experience."
