Dr. Bruce A. Douglas, Detroit Health Commissioner, commends Detroit
JeWish • community's interest in establishing new hospital here in state-
ment before committee planning campaign to raise $2,000,000 for project

TEWISH communities throughout the land, includ-
ing Detroit, will observe this Saturday as the
Joint • Distribution Committee Sabbath, sponsored by the
Synagogue Council of America in cooperation with the JDC.
The significance of the Sabbath is given emphasis in the
lighting of the candles by a member of the PATS, the Pal-
estine equivalent of the WAC, on a desert battlefield, using
a helmet as a candlestick. The accompanying poster was
executed for the JDC by Ezekiel Schloss, a Latvian-Jewish
artist who came to the U. S. three years ago with the aid of
the Jewish Labor Committee. •
