Lord Moyne's Assassination

Delegates to United Jewish Appeal parley in Chicago hear Dr. Heller de-
clare that to a degree Britain must be held responsible because her re-
stricted policies served "to unhinge ill-balanced minds and to throw them
into histrionics of their recent acts," adding that the "wild program of the
Irgun and Sternists must be measured against Palestine's war effort" .. .

Association to Function
Under Federation; Plan
ZOO-Bed Project in City

Incorporation of the Jewish Hospital Association of De-
troit and the completion of plans to conduct a drive here m
February for $2,000,000 for the construction of a modern, 200-
bed general hospital under Jewish auspices, "as a contribu-
tion to the health and welfare of our community," was an-
nounced this week.
The organizational committee of the Jewish Hospital As-
sociation, functioning under the auspices of the Jewish
Welfare Federation of Detroit, consists of Sidney J. Allen,
Maurice Aronsson, Irving W. Blumberg, Fred M. Butzel,
Irwin. I. Cohn, Israel Davidson, Harry Frank, Max Osnos,
Leo Siegel, Abraham Srere, Frank A. Wetsman and Henry
Wineman.
.
The decision to conduct a drive for • a hospital building
fund is the. outgrowth of a survey on the hospital situation
in Detroit conducted in 1938 by Dr. J. J. Golub, noted hospital
consultant, in behalf of the Jewish Welfare Federation, as
well as subsequent studies made by the Federation. •

Dr. Golub recommended that the community plan for a
200-bed general hospital for acute diseases—an institution
that would be well-planned, scientifically equipped, soundly,
administered and medically staffed by qualified and prom-
ising physicians in the medical and surgical specialties.

Jewry Honors Dr. Weizmann on 70th Birthday

T

HIS IS THE MAN—and THIS IS THE LAND. The tribute which work}
Jewry will pay to Dr. Chaim Weizmann on Nov. 27, on the occasion of his
70th birthday, reflects the gratitude of his people for his historic work as the moving
spirit in the redemption of Palestine. The honors accorded Dr. Weizmann, through com-
mittees ftinctioning throughout the world, including Detroit, mirror the rise of the great
Jewish community in Palestine. They are symbolic of the hopes of millions of Jews
who look to a redeemed Eretz Israel to end their homelessness and to make it possible

for them to live creative lives as Jews. Under Dr. Weizmann's leadership, as president
of the Jewish Agency for *Palestine and the World Zionist Organization Palestine has
grown from a population of 50,000 Jews to the present community of 600,000.
'
The
tributes to this great leader signify our people's determination to see the early realiz-
ation of the establishment of the Jewish National Home and to put an end to the raiserA
of millions of Jews caused by homelessness.
