Dr. Weizmann handled the following letter for transmis- sion to the Prime Minister: "I can hardly find adequate words to express the deep moral indignation and horror which I feel over the murder of Lord Moyne. I know that these feel- ings are shared by Jewry throughout the world. Whether or not the criminals prove to have been Palestinian Jews, their act illumines the abyss to which terrorism leads. Political crimes of this kind are a special abomin- ation in that they make it pos- sible to implicate whole commun- ities in the. guilt of a few. I can assure you that Palestine Jewry, like its representative bodies have declared, will go to the utmost limits of its power to cut out, root and branch, this evil from its midst." Cables Moyne's Son Dr. Weizmann also cabled per- sonal condolences to Lord Moy- ne's Son in Cairo. Expressing "the horror and sorrow of every Jew" over the assassination of Lord Moyne, Chief Rabbi I. J. Hertz issued a statement in which he declared that the Sternite terrorists were crazed "by the butcheries of their kith and kin in the human slaughter house of Poland" and that they had also been infected by the "evil example of the Mutfi terrorists in Palestine who killed British officials and moderate Arabs" opposed . to their policies. British public opinion, outrag- ed by the murder of Lord Moyne by two irresponsible youths be- longing to the Stern Gang, now generally acknowledges that the Jewish people must not be blam- ed for the assassination. Crisis Becomes Acute Nevertheless, the crisis affect- ing the Jewish position in Pales- tine became more serious as a result of the confusion that was created in some British circles by the Sternists' act. The Manchester Guardian has made an editorial demand that Great Britain solve the Palestine problem speedily, upon consulta 7 tion with President Roosevelt, as the only way of putting an end to terrorism. In New York, • the American Zionist Emergency Council issued a strong-worded statement con- . demning the murder as "foul assassination." In the meantime, in London, the Jewish Dominion League was formed under the presidency of Lord Strabolgi having for its ob- jective the establishment of a "self-governing Jewish state on both sides of the Jordan with dominion status within the Brit- ish Empire." Fellowship Founded Following the passage of a re- solution calling for a Jewish commonwealth in an undivided Palestine by the Board of Jewish Deputies, anti-Zionists have an- nounced the founding of The Jewish Fellowship, a British equivalent of the American Council for Judaism in the U. S., which contends that the Jewish Commonwealth resolution is not expressive of the sentiments of many Jews in Britain. The Jew- ish followship declared itself cognizant of Palestine's place in Jewish tradition. It will combat all efforts to give the impression that the Jews are not mainly a religious, but a political unit. In Johannesburg, South Africa, the establishment of a free and independent Jewish state in Pal- estine was demanded by Minister of Justice Colin Steyn, address- ing a crowded Balfour Day meet- ing. Representatives of the United States, Russia, China, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Poland and Switzerland attended. Creation of a Jewish state, Mr. Steyn said, should be effected t h r o u g h friendly cooperation with the Arabs, if possible. But, if the Arabs are unwilling to agree to a Jewish state, he continued, Pal- estine should be opened to un- restricted Jewish immigration and colonization which would eventually lead to a Jewish Com- monwealth. Sidney Silverman to Address Jewish Congress Meeting at Center JTA Gets Full Story Of Moyne Assassination By BERL CORALNIK Jerusalem, (JTA) — The full story of the assassination in Cairo of Lord Moyne, British Resident Minister of State in the Middle East, and the real identity of his murderers were-obtained here by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency from reliable sources. When arrested, the two terror- ists gave their names as Moshe Cohen Itzhak and Charles Salz- man. The JTA informant, how- ever, revealed that they are Eli- ahu Khakim, 25, of Haifa; and Ephraim Ben Zuri, 23 ; of Tel Leon Kay, president of the De- troit section of the American Jewish Congress, announced this week that Hon. S. Sidney Silver- man, Member of the British Par- liament, who is in this country to attend the sessions of the World Jewish Congress in Atlan- tic City next week, will address a public meeting at the Jewish. Honor Delegates Delegations arriving from many countries to attend the War Emergency Conference of the World Jewish Congress will be honored as guests of the American Jewish Congress at a public reception at Commodore Hotel, New York, next Wednes- day evening. The event will precede the in- ternational conference which will take place in Atlantic City for five days beginning Sunday, Nov. 26, for the purpose of formulat- ing a program of action in con- nection with postwar problems of rehabilitation and restoration of the Jewish communities in Eu- rope. Aviv. Khakim left the British Army in February of this year. Zuri was given a leave of ab- sence by the Hebrew University two years ago to join the armed forces. The two arrived in Cairo, sep- arately, and were not even known to each other until they met in accordance with instruc- tions from the central commit- tee of the Stern Gang. They left here for Egypt wearing mili- tary uniforms and equipped with the necessary documents and sup- plies. They were in Cairo for 18 days before the attack on Lord Moyne, during which time they secured arms and explosives. You ARE INVITED TO AN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY EVENT!
