JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Moscow government will
not oppose the establishment of a Jewish State in Palestine

memories remain with us."

A select audience was invited
to the ceremony at Government
House. Guests included David
ben Gurion, chairman of the Jew-
ish Agency Executive; Isaac ben
Zvi, president of the Vaad Leumi,
Jewish Palestine's National Coun-
cil; Chief Rabbis Isaac Herzog
and Ben Zion Uziel, Jerusalem's
Acting Mayor Daniel. Auster, Jus-
tice Gad Frumkin and his wife,
as -well as Jewish Senior Govern-
ment Officers. The Palcor
Agency correspondent was one
of the few newspapermen at the
ceremony.
Viscount Gort, after hearing his
appointment read in the country's
three official languages — Eng-
lish, Hebrew and Arabic — and
after signing the oath of office,
stated that when flying along the
Mediterranean shores en route to
Palestine, he felt "inspired at the
thought" that he was "coming to
serve the historic land of Pales-
tine."
All the newspapers, with the
exception of the Arabic which re-
mained noncommittal, praised the
new High Commissioner's person-
ality, his courage and wide ex-
perience as a general and an ad-
ministrator.

Ben-Gurion, speaking at a con-
ference of the Mapai, Palestine
Jewish Labor Party, in Tel Aviv,
emphasized that he made this
prediction on the basis of in-
formation received by him. He
also said that while not opposing
the establishment of a Jewish
State in Palestine, the Russian
government will not permit Rus-
sian Jews to emigrate to Pales-
tine.
Palestine Hebrew newspapers
report that Dr. Chaim Weizmann,
who was due to arrive here any
day from London has postponed
his trip for two weeks because
of an invitation from Prime Min-
ister Churchill to meet with him.
The newspapers also report
that Ben-Gurion soon will pro-
ceed to Romania for the purpose
of contacting Russian authorities
there in connection with the Zion-
ist demand for the establishment
of Palestine as a Jewish 'Com-
monwealth.

In Undivided Palestine
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The only
guarantee that the remnant of

resolution adopted this week at
a nation-wide conference of the
Poale Agudas Israel, labor section
