Edgar Mills Sings
New Hebrew Songs
At Center, Nov. 19
Edgar Mills, baritone, will in-
troduce new Hebrew and Yiddish
songs in the concert of Jewish
music arranged by the joint Yid-
dish culture .committee of the
Jewish Center and Community
Council, on Nov. 19, at the Cen-
ter.
The Hebrew number is an aria
from the Goldmark opera "Queen
of Sheba," translated in Palestine
and performed originally by Mr.
Philip • "Cincy" Sachs, one of
the best k now n basketball
coaches in this part of the pun-
try, this week announce& the
commencement of his 26th year
of coaching here by directing
the Mansfield Clothes team.
Sachs' team will play in the
Greater Detroit League on Sun-
day evenings, starting Dec. 3,
at Hackett Field House. He will
bring to Detroit some of the
country's leading clubs and his
schedule includes a five-game
series, with the Dow Chemical
team of Midland.
Sachs is in charge of coach-
ing boys, 13 to 17, in the Macca-
bees and Hakoah Divisions at
the Jewish Center. This Sunday,
he will stage a demonstration in
basketball at the Center and
also will sponsor a clinic game.
The new, team includes several
outstanding players, among them
Jerry Katz of Alma College, who
has been discharged from the
Navy; Al Ganz, Lloyd Averbach,
Alec Taub and others.

bration, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, Nov. 17 to 19.
Friday evening services will be
held at Temple Israel at 8:15
p.m. and will be followed by a
social get-together. A silver jubi-,
lee dance, featuring the _orches-
tras of Ray Gorrell and Del Del-
bridge and a stage show, will
take place Saturday in the audi-
torium of the Jewish Center.
Mrs. Oscar Marks of New

dent of the national Council of
Jewish Women, will speak at a
brunch,. 11:30_ a.m., at the Jew-
ish Center.

sian-Jewish composer, M. Krash-
ner.
Mr. Mills, formerly of the
Vienna Folk Opera, now a cantor
in Newark, N. J., has prepared
a program to include.„.popular
Yiddish folk songs and selections
from modern Hebrew repertoire.
Sharing the evening with Mr.
Mills will be Julius Chajes, music
director of tke Jewish Cominun-
ity Center, Bernard ArgieWicz
and Arthur Grossman, in a re-
cital of compositions for piano,
cello and violin by Mr. Chajes,
A. W. Binder and Jacob Wein-
berg.
This is the second in the series
of eight Cultural events spon-
sored by the joint Yiddish culture
committee.
