sponsible Jewish Groups
To War on Stern Terrorists
Ikeports From Cairo Blame, Jewish Extremists Belonging
to "Stern Gang" for the Assassination of Lord
Moyne, British Minister in Middle East
Reports from Cairo that Jewish extremists belonging to the
"Stern Gang" in Palestine are being blamed for the assassination
this week of Lord Moyne, British resident minister of the Middle
East, have resulted in the issuance of a number of statements by
responsible Jewish groups throughout the world condemning any
acts of terrorism, in and out of Palestine, and pledging all assistance
in the movement to stamp out the outrageous and irresponsible
Sternist activities.
The Jewish Agency for Palestine, the Vaad Leumi, the Zionist
Organizations of Great Britain and the United States, the various
labor and orthodox Zionist movements and the women's and youth
organizations have repudiated the Sternists and have declared that
they will join in an organized effort to put an end to terrorism.
Denouncing the irresponsible acts of deluded youngsters whose
fanaticism has caused harm to the Zionist movement, the leading
Jewish organizations throughout the world have repeated declara-
tions that were . made in the past few weeks that the Jewish com-
munity of Palestine and the Zionist movements throughout the world
are in no sense responsible for the outrageous acts.
Even the • Revisionist movement, which was at first held re-
sponsible for arousing terrorist sentiments among a small group of
youngsters belonging to the Stern Gang, has repudiated its actions.
Campaign Well Underway
For Brigade Enlistments
Shertok Delivers Inspiring Speech at Mass Meeting in Tel
Aviv Theater, Opening Drive for Volunteers;
Official Flag Designed
TEL AVIV, (Palcor)—The campaign for enlistments for the
Jewish Brigade was launched here with a mass meeting at the
Mograbi Theater, as crowds in front jammed in the nearby streets
listened in hushed silence to the speeches over the amplifiers.
The main address was delivered by Moshe Shertok, chief of
the .Political Department of the Jewish Agency, who pointed out
that "just as the danger that threatened Palestine resulted, at our
instance, in the formation of battalions, so the final stage of the
war in Europe helped us achieve a Jewish Brigade Group:"
He stated, however, that "the result of the inevitably hap-
hazard process of enlistment has been that when the time for the
concentration of our forces arrived, the composition of our units
hasn't been found to correspond with the structure of the Brigade
Group, so that in some-branches we have a surplus and in others
a deficiency." The immediate duty is "to put the Brigade Group on
its feet from resources now available."
Jewish Command and Jewish Brotherhood
"The new volunteers," he said,' "won't have to tread the Via
Dolorosa of their predecessors. They will inherit- from the outset
the fruits of the efforts and sacrifices of five years of struggle:
national title and symbols: Jewish command and Jewish brother-
hood within a broad military framework; first rate battle equip-
ment and an opportunity to settle accounts with our enemy; their's
will be the privilege of fulfilling the high mission of avenging their
massacred brothers, and of bringing the message of liberation and
the homeland to the surviving Jews."
