A Stuttgart Prisoner
LONDON, (JTA)—Leon Blum,
former premier of France, is now
imprisoned 'at Stuttgart in Ger-
many, according to a dispatch by
the French Telegraphic Agency.
The dispatch quotes a news-
paper in the. German town - of
Schaffhausen on the Swiss-Ger-
man. border, as reporting that
Blum, together with Edourad
Daladier, who was premier when
war broke out had been taken
to Freiburg in Breisgau and from
there to Stuttgart.

Murphy was honored • by the
Council •because of his outstand-
ing contributions to the cause of
American unity and fair treat-
ment of all peoples regardless of
their 'race or creed or color.
, In presenting the paintings
which is the work of John Ather-
ton, well-known poster artist,
Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, co-chair-
man of the Council, specifically
Prof. Roth, Rector of
Hebrew U., Now in N. Y.
have become separated as a re-
sult of the war and Nazi occupa-
tion, has been designated by the
Hias-Ica Emigration Association.
Rabbi Zev Bloom of Temple
Emanu-El, Lynbrook, Long Is-
land, left for 'Europe to devote
himself to this work. He is a
graduate of City College and of
the Jewish Institute of Religion
and was at one time a member
of the faculty of the French Can-
adian Laval University in Que-
bec City.
The problem of restoring brok-
en family ties is looming as one
of the most important facing the
Hias-Ica, according to Isaac L.
Asofsky, Ekecutive director of
the Hebrew Sheltering , and Im-
migrant Aid Association as the
Hias-Ica Emigration Association.
Rabbi Bloom left for Lisbon
from where he will proceed to
France and other countries as
conditions permit. In connection
with the activity in France, it
was also announced by Mr. Asof-
sky that the general headquar-
ters of Hias-Ica in Paris which
were closed down upon' the out-
break of war, will soon be re-
opened, with Dr. James Bern-
stein, now directing the Lisbon
bureau of Hias-Ica but formerly
in charge of the Paris bureau,
returning to his former post..

Presents Painting to Justice Murphy
A representative group of De-
troiters attended the service
marking the unveiling of the
monument. in tribute to the late
Samuel D. Weinberg, deceased
city editor of the Jewish Daily
Forward, last Sunday . noon, at
the Workmen's Circle Cemetery.
Ben_ Shifrin, a leader in the
Arbeiter Ring (Workmen's Cir-
cle) with' which the late Mr.
Weinberg was affiliated, presided
at- the service, and addresses of
tribute were • delivered • by Zal-
man ZilberzWeig of New York, a
leader in cultural and theatrical
circles and a co-editor of the
theatrical Lexicon; Joseph Bern-
stein, manager of the Detroit
edition of the Jewish Daily For-
ward, and Philip Slomovitz. The
monument was unveiled by Mrs.
Weinberg and the deceased's
surviving son, Theodore Wein--
berg, recited the Kaddish.

Leon Roth, Rector of the Hebrew
University, has arrived here
from Jerusalem for the purpose
of making a study at close range
of some of the leading American
universities, with a special ref-
erence to academic administra-
tion and methods of instruction.

11845 LaSalle Blvd., died Oct.
27, after a long illness. Funeral
services were held at Lewis
Bros. Chapel with burial in the
Jewish Folks Verein Cemetery.
He is .survived by his wife, Eva;

nicks, Edna and Ruth; two
grandchildren and. two brothers,
