The Bronze Star

meritorious action in France.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Maskin Of 2974 Clairmount Ave.,
were informed recently of the
award..
Upon graduation from t h e
Wayne University School of
Medicine, he served as a resi-
dent at several hospitals and
practiced psychiatry in New
York City.
His wife, the former Eva Stark
of Boston, is now a violinist with
the Pittsburgh Symphony Or-
chestra.
A younger brother, Cpl.
George Maskin, is on the staff
of "Stars and Stripes" in Eng-
land, A graduate of Michigan
State College, he had been a
sports writer for the Detroit
Times. George has been in serv-
ice since November, 1941.
Capt. Ben Reder, a brother-
in-law of the servicemen, is sta-
tioned at the General Hospital,
Camp Carson, Colo. He is the
husband of their sister, Rosalyn.

Valor in Action

The heroism of a Detroiter,
who died in action in the South
Pacific on June 14, 1944, was re-
vealed in a letter his brother re-
ceived from the commanding of-
ficer.
Cpl. Marshall Davis, who is
with the 52nd Fighter Control
Squadron somewhere in England,
received a letter from Capt.
James H. S.' Kindt of Headquar-
ters 162nd Infantry explaining
the death of his
brother, Pfc.
Charles P. Da-
vis. He wrote
to the inquiring
serviceman i n
England:
"Charles was
killed in action
during an attack
by the enemy
on June 14. Pfc. Davis
1944. A member of the medical
detachment, he lost his life while
attempting to remove two wound-
ed - soldiers to a place of safety
where he could tend their
wounds. For this heroic achieve-
ment, he has been awarded the
Bronze Star Medal, sposthumous-
ly."
The Davis' mother, Mrs. Rose
Davis, resides at 18015 Ohio Ave.
Pfc. Charles P. Davis is also
survived by his wife, Helaine
Abel of 3255 Cortland. He was
killed on - Biak - Island. He was
in service since • October, - 1941,
and was sent overseas in March,
1942. He was a, graduate of
Northern High School, Detroit In-
stitute of Technology and Temple
Beth El school of religion.

S/Sgt. Lieberman, a Highland
Park high school graduate, re-
ceived his degree from the Law
School of the University of Mich-
igan. He also was graduated from
Temple Beth El.
A pratticing Attorney before
his induction, in December of
1942, he was sent to England on
June 6 of this year. From there
he went to France where he is
stationed at an engineering sup -
ply depot.

Pvt. J. Moss Gets

Brother on India-Burma-
China Front

Seriously woUrided in Italy on
Oct. 3, Pvt. Jack Moss, 19, is
recovering despite the extensive-
ness of his injuries. In a letter
to his parents,- Mr. and Mrs. John
H. Moss of 15325 Tuller Ave.,
he tells how the bullet entered
his arm., went
through his
body. and exited
through his leg.
Inducted in
the autumn' of
1943, . Pvt. Moss,
who is with the
infantry,- trained
in Florida and
was sent over-
seas about four
months ago. He
Pvt. Moss
was with the - troops that entered,
Rome and participated in the
various campaigns in Italy. Pvt.
Moss was employed in a defense
plant in civilian life.
Married to the former Jane
Bondy two years ago, he is the
-father of 1-month-old Sandra.
His wife and daughter reside at
.14135 Birwood Ave.
A brother, Pvt. Samuel Moss,
is with the air corps and is sta-
tioned on the India-Burma-China
front.

Ensign Sugar Reports
For Sea Duty Training

Ensign A. Albert Sugar, former
Chief, Lease section of Army
Air Forces, Central Procurement
District, Air Technical Service
Command, recently spent several
days leave in Detroit with his
wife and three-year-old daughter,
at 2295 Tyler, before reporting to
Hollywood, Fla., for training for
sea duty as a line officer.
Ensign Sugar, who was a prac-
ticing attorney here and was a
legal adviser to . the AAF District
Supervisor prior to the appoint-
ment of a Judge Advocate, was
commissioned by the Navy De-
partment last August and re-
ported at Princeton, N. J.
Both his brothers, Maj. H. Saul
Sugar and Pvt. Morris D. Sugar,
are in the Ariby.
