synagogues, religious institutions
and organizations for Sunday,
Nov. 26, at 2 p. m., at the Bnai
Moshe, Dexter and. Lawrence, to
hear a detailed report of ac-
complishments of the - Merkaz
which collaborated Wetth the
Vaad Horabonim in behalf of
Kashruth.
A banquet, to express the so-
lidarity of the •*religious Jew to
fight for his rights, will follow
the same evening; it was stated.
Vaad Horabonim is the Coun-
cil of Orthodox Rabbis. --
The conference and banquet is

Vaad Horabonim and Merkaz.

Bnai Moshe Opens
Friday Evening
Services, Nov. 10

Congregation Bnai Moshe will
inaugurate the 1944-1945 season
of late Friday evening services
Nov. 10, beginning at 8:15 and the
prayers will be said by Cantor
David Katzman.
Rabbi Jacob J. ' Nathan will
preach the opening sermon, "Liv-
ing in a Revolution." A sym-
posium will follow the services
in which the young folks will
participate.
The public also is invited by
the president, Harry Rosman, to
attend these services.

Detroit's Protestant Churches
and Jewish sYnagogues will join
in the national United Church
Canvass, beginning with t h e
week-end of Nov. 11-12 and end-.
ing with the week-end of Dec.
2-3.
The theme of the Detroit ap-
peal by the lay sponsors of the
Canvass is: "Mobilize for Peace."
A cooperating committee of
clergy, composed of the Rev. T.
T. Brumbaugh, secretary of the
Council of Churches; the Rev.
Willis L. Gelston, D. D., of the
Highland Park Presbyterian
Church; and Rabbi Leon Fram,
of Temple Israel, was written
more than 500 churches and syn-
agogues asking _that they observe
the four week-ends starting Nov.
11-12.

Ruth Soifer, Detroit soprano,
will be a guest of the Temple
Israel Juniors at 2:30 p. m. Sun-
day, at the home of Shirley
Weinberg, 1650 Wildemere.
_ Miss Soifer, a member of the
Temple. Israel choir and a senior
in the College of Education at
Wayne University, will be ac-
companied ..by ; Deena Zemel, a
junior at Wayne,

Comparative Religion under the
supervision of Mrs. Reuben Le-
vine, who introduced this type
of study into Jewish religious
schools of Detroit 11 years ago.
Last Sunday the group visited
the Brightmoor Pentacostal Tab-
ernacle after a box supper and
discussion at the home of Ann-
ette Joffe.
New Members are welcome to
attend Sunday's meeting and
participate in Juniors' activities,

the activities of the American
Jewish Congress, on Nov. 30, at
the Jewish Community Center.
Leon Kay, president of the
Detroit Chapter of the American
Congress, in his announcement
of the presentation of Rabbi
Miller in Detroit, stated that the
-latest plans to combat discrim-
ination will be reviewed by the

eminent of the younger orthodox
rabbis in America.

In the Jewish radio broadcast
last Saturday night, over Sta-
tion WJLB, Mrs. Hyman Altman
interviewed Sgt. Mary Elman of
Brooklyn, - N. Y., of the WAC.
Sgt, Elman told where she 'has
acquired 'her education in com-
mercial accounting and related
that she speaks French,- German
and Jewish fluently. She en-
listed in the WAC in February,
1943. She stated that she is anx-
ious to go overseas.

Refugee Expert On Semitics
Commits Suicide In Cairo
CAIRO, • (JTA) — Prof. Paul
Krauss, Czech Orientalist, com-
mitted suicide here. Born in
Prague, he occupied the chair of
Semitics at Cairo University. Al-
though 40, he was well known
for his many works in Arabic
and Hebrew and for his critical
studies of Semitic poetry.

Beth Itzchock Religious School
is planning a Hanukah program
in which all students will par-
ticipate.

on how history is taught through
dramatizations and how upper
classes conduct current events
courses, using important period-
icals as texts.

artillery shells exploded 200
yards away, a group of 50 Jewish
GIs near Aachen held the first
Jewish religious services to be
broadcast from Nazi soil to the
U.S. in a dramatic program pre-
sented Sunday by the. American
Jewish Committee over the NBC.
The ceremonies were held in
the open air in a sector of the
American First Army's front and
Catholic and Protestant chaplains
participated in what was prob-
ably the first inter-faith demon-

since the Nazis came to power.
